Times are surely changing – South Korea just recently elected their first female President, Park Guen-hye! However, this isn’t the first time Asia has elected a female to the highest political office – walk with us down memory line as we take you through some former (and current) prime ministers and presidents of Asia. (Btw, we also think America is also ready for a female president in four years!)

Park Geun-hye, was elected the first female president in South Korea on December 19, 2012.

Yingluck Shinawatara, Thailand’s first female Prime Minister (2011).

Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is Sri Lanka’s only female President to date (1994-2005).

Sirimavo Bandaranaike became the world’s first female Prime Minister in 1960.

Han Myung-sook is South Korea’s only female Prime Minister.

Corozon Aquino became Asia’s first female president in 1986.

Benazir Bhutto is Pakistan’s first (and only) female Prime Minister – and the first woman to lead a Muslim state.

Pratibha Patil became the first woman to become President of India in 2007.

Indira Gandhi is India’s first female Prime Minister.

Khaleda ZIa is Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister, serving two terms.

Megawati Sukarnoputri was Indonesia’s first female president.
