When it was announced in late November that Alexander Wang would take over as the next Creative Director for brand Balenciaga (after Nicolas Ghesquière ended his 15-year run), it left the fashion industry in uproar. Would he be able to follow in the footsteps of Ghesquière and carry on the brand’s legacy? While Wang has already made quite a name for himself at a young age as a fashion designer, many believed that he didn’t carry enough experience.

Fast forward to this week’s Paris Fashion Week for the Fall 2013 collections, where Wang made his highly anticipated Balenciaga debut. It was met with good praises from editors to fashion directors alike (Vogue‘s Hamish Bowles: “Instead, Wang managed to play with some signature house ideas, married to the austere, sculptural quality for which Cristóbal Balenciaga was celebrated in the late fifties and sixties—while never making the clothes look retro”), but some commented on his room for growth as well. Looking forward to seeing more of his talents shrine through!
