‘Tis the season for graduating seniors to don their caps and gowns and cross that stage for their diplomas. And there’s no better way to say “congrats, you’ve made it” like a fancy gift. Here at Audrey we’ve thought up some gift ideas that would be great for a college grad eager to land that first job or a high school senior making that leap to college.
College Grads
Say “buh-bye” to spiral notebooks and say “hello” to Moleskin notebooks. Give your grad a sleek Moleskin and they’ll show their future employers how organized and prepared they are when taking notes. Head on to your nearest Barnes & Nobles to make your purchase.
For many college graduates they’ll find their paychecks in their hometowns, while others will get theirs in other cities which then a GPS navigation may come in handy. Help your grad navigate around their new surroundings and get to their new job on time with the portable Garmin Nuvi 205.
An iPad may be over your budget but the next best thing is an iPad case. Designers have caught on the iPad craze and to show it they have included iPad cases in their accessory collections — from Louis Vuitton and Gucci to Burberry and Oscar de la Renta. We’re partial to the chic cases seen in Diane von Furstenberg’s newest line, Diane Vintage. The Paddie iPad Case comes in different colors and prints: Desert Leaf, Chain Link, Camo, Zebra Swirl and Brambles.
High School Grads
Anyone who has been on a university campus before knows that a hoodie and sweatpants is a staple outfit among the student body. Can we blame them? So easy and so comfortable, especially when there’s an 8:00 a.m. class to attend. Now that’s a killer but the style doesn’t have to suffer. Help your senior stay on the course of trend by giving them scarves to easily polish up their everyday look. You can stay on budget if you shop for hot scarves at H&M, Forever 21 or Urban Outfitters.
While looking for a graduation gift, you might as well turn it into something good that helps others. Enter TOMS. We all know that famous statement: “With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One.” Lucky for you TOMS knows how to do it in style. The brand has evolved their selection to include something for everyone. While TOMS now features more playful options like tie dye wedges for the ladies and suede “botas”for the gents, nothing, of course, beats the classics.
A list of dorm essentials will be made this summer but one “essential” that could be looked over is wall decor. Movie posters from their favorite films is a good way to brighten up a tiny dorm room. This may sound passé but graphic designers like Brandon Schaefer, Ibraheem Youssef and Olly Moss have made movie posters cool again. Each designer creatively pay tribute to movies from yesteryears to present day while incorporating their own artistic aesthetic. We suggest Youssef’s poster of Kill Bill where Lucy Liu played O-Ren Ishii and Inception which stars Ken Watanabe.
These are just some ideas that we’re sure would make that special grad happy but if none appeals to you, we hope it inspires you to go beyond than just putting a check inside a card. OK, that would still make anyone happy but a well though out gift does say more.
