I remember when sample sales were a rare, coveted event. Designers would set out runway samples and alert only a select, elite few to come peruse their wares at ridiculously low prices. The designers themselves would even be present, giving advice on how you can take in the back or sneaking out special merchandise for you. (I still have the slim-cut stone trench with sequin trimmed belt that Phillip Lim, during his pre-3.1 days, brought out for me at his warehouse during a Development — his former label — sample sale a half a dozen years back. Sigh.)
Nowadays, sample sales are aplenty, but who has time to trek out to some out-of-the-way warehouse to pick through stuff that, well, has been picked through? Thank goodness for online discounters and sample sales — it can make a slow work day quite productive.
Modnique is one such sample sale trove. The retailer of designer merchandise at highly discounted prices save its members up to 85 percent off well-known brands such as Valentino, Miss Sixty, Covet, Lalique, Gucci, Fendi and more. Everything sold on Modnique (read: Modern meets Unique) is guaranteed to be 100 percent brand new and authentic.
The catch? You only have anywhere from 36 to 72 hours to nab sale items of specific brands, and it’s only available to its members. (But membership is free, so why wouldn’t you join?)
Try it out! To get you started, Modnique and Audrey Magazine are giving away a pair of Fendi sunglasses to one lucky reader. It’s the Fendi FS474M, length 5.5 inches, made in Italy (of course), and retails for $275.

So here’s what you have to do:
1. Go through Audrey Magazine’s winter 2010-11 issue and tell us your favorite part of the magazine and why.
2. If you don’t have a copy of our winter issue (what?!?), then tell us your favorite story at AudreyMagazine.com and tell us why.
3. Do this via comment to this post by Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 11:59 pm. Don’t forget, you must have a U.S. mailing address to win.
Good luck!
The products often give us some imagination of the world. Mgcmrvxjy

LOVE LOVE LOVE AUDREY!!
Thank you Audrey Magazine for introducing me to Gurpareet Bains’ cookbook, “Indian Superfood”, featured under the Beauty Kit section in the magazine! I started collecting cookbooks right after I got married because I didn’t know much about cooking except for 3-4 dishes I learned by standing in the kitchen of my father’s chinese restaurant in Honduras. The more I read and cooked, I discovered that I really enjoyed the entire creative process. When I got my hands on “Indian Superfood”, I was so excited to read it! I love that there is a story, a childhood memory tied to each recipe. Because I’m not familiar with the spices, it’s harder for me to envision the taste, so the personal anecdotes help me determine whether I’ll attempt the dish or not. Oooo…. but for sure I’ll be preparing the Pomegranate Summer Cooler (with chai-infused vodka) for my friend’s bridal shower! A cocktail with health benefits… who knew!
My fav part of the magazine is always The Awful Truth
Not only are the illustrations adorable, but it… is what it is: the awful truth. It’s poignant, it’s funny, it’s true! And often both sides make really good points.
I like the travel article the best, actually.. The most recent one about the retreats in India really sparked my travel bug! Which is good and bad, since I now really want to go but can’t quite yet.
I love the “New year, new you” story! it gives me great ideas on the items I can add to update my wardrobe…. things I wouldn’t have known or thought about on my own. love it!
My favorite story was the one about Alex Woo’s advocacy for breast cancer awareness. What struck me most about the story was that she feels like she never got to say good-bye to her mother; it made me realize that we have to appreciate our loved ones while we still can.
I loved the article Hip-Hop Groundswell: Far East Movement! It was definitely an interesting read to read about their personal background and how much dedication and passion Far East Movement puts into making music. These guys are going to go FAR!!
The Fashion section is always my favorite! I love the fashion article online “New Year, New You” it is showing the upcoming trends for the spring. I love getting current fashion information. It gives me heads up on what will be in style. I also love to see what I can take from the previous season to see if it’ll tie into anything in tghe upcoming season. I really think you do a great job providing all this information and making it readily accessible. Thanks!!
Haven’t read or even known about audrey magazine prior to finding this competition, but I did visit the archives online and read and enjoyed The Awful Truth: The Office Grind. While I agree with both sides of the debate I have to side with Paul on this; that 99% of the time nothing good can come of an office romance. Through my own career, several jobs, 30 years of it, I’ve personally avoided romance at work like the plague
I just found out about your magazine and I went online!
I watched the first video in the Beauty Section because I LOVE Michelle Phan’s eye makeup!
WOW!! I Want That LOOK!!! Then, of course, I read the article about her being Lancome’s new makeup sensation on Youtube and I looked at ALL of the videos you have posted!
What a great magazine! I will be back!!! Thanks!

The first section I look at at Audreymagazine.com is the beauty section. I love to watch the videos to get new ideas and see new techniques for getting the most up to date looks.
I also enjoyed the article about Comedian Sheng Wang. I have a respect for good comedians!

I love the fashion editorial section! Particularly the one from the winter issue (the big chill), since comfy + stylish = win! Love winter clothes. Love seeing asian models in winter clothes. Yes.
If I had to choose a runner up… ah. It’d have to be a tie between the travel section and the relationships section (the one where it’s one issue from two perspectives.. the column name is evading me right now.)
Anyway, thanks for all you do, Audrey.
I always love reading the Personalities section because I think you feature a great, diverse bunch of Asian Americans that wouldn’t normally get as much coverage in mainstream magazines. I especially like the feature on Joseph Vincent but that may be because he’s my friend.
Grace Park’s in” Hawaii 5-O”, She is one to watch.
My favorite story is from the fall issue about Shay Mitchell. I have seen a couple of episodes of Pretty Little Liars, and yes indeed, the characters are much more relatable and realistic than Gossip Girls. But what makes me call this article my favorite is the change Shay Mitchell (and other Asian American actors) is bringing to the arts and entertainment industry; I am well-aware of the lack of diversity and it is wonderful to see actors/actresses like Shay making a difference.
I love Grace Park in Hawaii 5-O!
But the story behind “The Giveing Tree” was very touching.
Those are rad!
I wish I had a copy of the latest Audrey magazine, but I still haven’t found it in stores near me. =( But on the website, I really liked the article about Alex Woo’s Tree of Life necklace. I’ve been a fan of her jewelry for a while now (such beautiful stuff!), so I was really happy to see her featured in Audrey. It’s awesome that she creates pieces for such good causes, too. Please keep featuring other awesome Asian American designers!
