The Lipstick That Sold Out Worldwide Thanks To K-Drama ‘My Love’ Is FINALLY Back

Hallyu stops for no one. Also known as the “Korean Wave,” Hallyu — that sweeping flood of catchy K-pop bands and heart-wrenching Korean dramas — has left a crazed world in its wake, leaving a multitude of screaming fans incoherently babbling through tears as their favorite star graces the stage.

Needless to say, Hallyu is a bit overwhelming, and its influence, mind-boggling. You might be familiar with a recent example of the mania — the worldwide shortage of one lipstick color that went viral. Now you may be wondering how a lipstick could possibly get so popular. Apparently, all it took was a rumor that the lipstick was worn by the main character of the popular K-drama My Love From The Star. Yup, K-drama influence can get that crazy.

After the rumor spread, YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture No. 52, which boasts a coral-pink shade, universally sold out online and in-stores. It was virtually impossible to get the lipstick unless you wanted to dish out $100 on eBay for a tiny tube of color.

But we have some great news for you — the lipstick is back in stock (and you should probably act fast).

lipstickYSL52

While No. 52 is still selling for up to $70 on eBay, a quick click of the refresh button on the YSL store page shows that the color is up for sale at the original (and more reasonable) price of $35. You no longer have to mix four different shades of lipstick to achieve the perfect coral-pink hue.

Behind all this marketing madness is My Love From The Star, a romantic Korean soap opera with a sci-fi twist. An alien disguised as a human landed on Earth 400 years ago during the Joseon Dynasty and eventually falls in love with a haughty actress in modern South Korea. Twenty-one episodes of hilarity, romance, and an unhealthy amount of chicken and beer ensue. The show was widely and positively received. In particular, viewers in China are die-hard fanatics of the show; one fan reportedly ended her relationship with her boyfriend because he was not as romantic as the show’s leading man.

Predictably, the show’s success has brought much fame to the the stars, actress Jun Ji-hyun and actor Kim Soo-hyun. And while one completely obsessed fan underwent the knife to resemble Kim Soo-hyun (I mean, understandably. Just look at the guy), millions of fans emptied out YSL’s stock of Rouge Pur Couture No. 52  when it was rumored to be the popular lipstick color worn by Jun in the show.

However, the major plot twist of the drama still remains: the lipstick that Jun wore was not made by YSL.

“The color of her lips [during the show] cannot be produced by a single product. The make-up artist mixed a number of different [products], and YSL was not one of them,” said an industry source, according to the Korea Herald.

In fact, it was Korea’s largest beauty company, AmorePacific, who officially sponsored My Love From The Star and had many of their products promoted in the drama. The sales of their skincare products and lipsticks used by Jun skyrocketed 75 percent and 400 percent, respectively, according to Chinese media.

Other companies who sponsored the show have also gained profit. Jun and Kim’s characters used Samsung’s Galaxy Note smartphones and all visible consumer electronics, including computers, cameras, TVs and refrigerators were Samsung products in the show.

YSL, however, was not a sponsor.

“AmorePacific had considered filing a lawsuit against YSL, which is choosing to remain silent on whether June is using their products,” said a source, reported the Korea Herald.

With all of the craze surrounding this lipstick, you’d think that it had fallen from the stars.

Jamie Chung Has the Cutest Reaction to the Ice Bucket Challenge

If you’ve been active on social media lately, chances are you’ve probably run into the Ice Bucket Challenge. In fact, this has caught the attention of celebs such as Lance Bass, Elizabeth Banks, Martha Stewart and most recently, Jamie Chung.

The premise is simple enough. You take a freezing bucket of ice water, dump it onto your head, record it, post it on social media and nominate some friends to do the challenge as well. I don’t know about you, but usually I find myself rolling my eyes at these “chain letter” challenges. Call me uptight, but I doubt I would choke on cinnamon, chug a can a beer or dump ice water on myself just because “everyone else is doing it.”

But as it turns out, I ought to listen to my grade school teacher about not judging a book by its cover. There is apparently much more to the Ice Bucket Challenge than what meets the eye .The challenge is an effort to use social media to promote ASL awareness. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the United States, is a neurodegenerative disease which results in difficulty speaking, swallowing and breathing.

What does this have to do with freezing ice water poured uncomfortably on one’s head? Well, after you are nominated to do the Ice Water Challenge, you have 24 hours to complete the challenge or you must make a donation to an ASL charity. Either way, more and more people are curious about the disease and the viral challenge has undoubtedly raised ASL awareness. According to the Huffington Post, there has been a 1,000 percent spike in donations to the ALS association since the beginning of the Ice Water Challenge.

Just a few hours ago, Audrey cover girl Jamie Chung participated in this challenge and it’s definitely a must-see. Let’s just say, if I dumped a bunch of freezing water on my head, I doubt I’d look that cute.

Chung then posted a second video challenging none other than Vanessa Hudgens! We’ll definitely be on the look out for that one.

Watch This Guy Dance His Way Into Pants — Without Using His Hands

You know those lazy summer days when you wake up, and it seems even simply lifting your head off that comfy pillow, never mind putting clothes on, is just way too much effort? Not for this Chinese guy by the surname of Xiao — he’s busy getting his sweat on by teaching himself a new skill. Watch him shimmy his way into a pair of what appears to be tight skinny jeans using “jazzercise” techniques, to the beat of epically empowering music. This video has only been on Youtube for a few days but has already gone viral with over four million viewers, and we can see why. It’s one of those things where it’s uncomfortable to watch, but yet you can’t seem to stop watching! One Youtube user left the perfect comment: “My mom went to my room, I quickly switched to porn because it’s easier to explain.”

Click to see what all the fuss is about:

At the end of the video, he invites us all to try his new found skill. I think this goes without saying but just in case — kids, please try this at home, and try not to injure yourselves.

Tearjerker Alert: Cancer Patient’s Final Wish to Marry the Love of His Life

Get your tissues out. You’ll be needing it.

A video from the Philippines has just been released and has already gathered over 2 million views. What could get this much attention this quickly? The beautiful and painful story of a cancer patient’s last wish.

Just last month, Rowden Pangcoga was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer. The disease took over quickly. Realizing his time was limited, Rowden made one final wish: to marry Leizl, his beloved girlfriend and the mother of his 2-year-old daughter.

Earlier this month, they fulfilled that wish. By the time preparations for the wedding were complete, Rowden’s state had gotten worse and he was unable to leave the hospital. This didn’t stop them. It was ultimately decided that the wedding would take place at the hospital.

The viral video shows footage of the beautiful and heartbreaking wedding. In a hospital room filled with tears from loved ones, the couple said their vows.

Less than 10 hours after the wedding, Rowden passed away.

“Our family would like to thank the Main Man up above, Jesus Christ, for orchestrating this very inspiring story. And for giving us enough time to give Rowden what he wanted, and show him how loved he was.”

Viral Video Alert: How Languages Sound to Foreigners

When we don’t understand a language, our minds naturally focus on things outside of comprehension. We focus on how the dialect sounds. We notice the accents, the tongue rolling, the dips and the particular pronunciations. You may only speak a few languages, but you’d be surprised to discover how many you recognize based on sound.

Similarly, I’m sure we’ve all wondered how our own dialect sounds like to a foreign ear. Is it pretty? Do our words sound beautifully slurred together or do they rise and dip in an intriguing manner?

Well this Finnish woman has certainly thought about it and seems determined to master the art of various accents.. without actually learning different languages.

19-year-old Finnish YouTube user Sara is seen in this video spending nearly two minutes speaking absolute gibberish. She may not know many languages, but she certainly sounds like she does.

Throughout the video, Sara mimics what various languages sound like to her. While she may throw in a few correct words here and there, she clearly does not know how to actually speak the languages. She reminds us that correct speech is not the purpose of her video anyway. She simply wants to demonstrate how different languages sound like to the foreign ear.

During her demonstration of an American accent, she says “Yeah, I mean, uh. Trevor-mis-underpairing-like-monin-fair. Follow me, like a pending friend-tricket. Balone-a-value precise-y. Hello?”

Clearly, she only knows a few words in English, but her ability to capture the accent is undeniable.

She also does a version of Japanese. Unfortunately, many viewers have said this is her weakest accent. Additionally, she ends the video with an “East Asian” demonstration that sounds closer to South Asia’s Vietnamese accent.

Of course, we understand that what we hear is simply a demonstration of how languages sounds like to her. This doesn’t seem to stop people from putting in their two cents. While the majority of viewers are impressed by her skills, there have been some people who are insulted that their language was not perfected and is shown in this manner.

Whatever the opinions may be, there is no denying this video is going viral. Less than a week since its release, the video has already gained nearly 4 million views on YouTube.

Why Has China Fallen in Love With These Siblings?

Here at Audrey Magazine, we have two series that seem to do particularly well: The Daily SHAG (Smoking Hot Asian Guy) and Adorable Asian Babies.

So what happens when you combine the two topics? Apparently, you get China’s new viral sensation.

David Woo, a young man from Guangzhou, China, began his Weibo account in 2010. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Weibo, it is described as China’s version of Twitter. Much like many other young adults in their early 20’s, Woo had a typical amount a followers that consisted of his family and friends.

But then, Woo began posting pictures of himself alongside his sister Peipei. The adorable girl is 18 years younger than her brother and proved to be a social media magnet. Soon, Woo discovered that his brother-sister posts would get over 100,000 likes on the social media platform.

Clearly, David Woo had stumbled upon something special. Maybe it’s the adorable amount of love between the siblings. Maybe it’s because Chinese netizens like looking at an older brother who takes very good care of his little sister. Whatever the reason may be, China can’t get enough of the duo.

Check out the adorable sibling pictures for yourself.
