The “How to Look More White” Makeup Tutorial for Self-Hating Asians

Joy Regullano, the comedian behind the  White Fetish viral video, is back. This most recent video parody, which is called “How To Look More White! Self-Hating Asian Party Look” pokes fun at makeup tutorial videos while packing in a serious punch about the impact of white beauty standards.

In the video, Regullano pokes fun at many controversial beauty routines such as skin bleaching and eyelid tape. For example, Regullano uses white skin perfect powder to erase her “ugly brown poop skin.” Soon enough, the tutorial takes a dark turn as she goes to extreme measures to erase any semblance of Asian-ness from her face until she essentially “becomes” a white woman.

The “makeup tutorial” is both hilarious and uncomfortable to watch. While it should be noted that there is debate over whether the lighter skin preference in Asian beauty standards is a result of Western colonialism (lighter skin has generally always been preferred because it was an indication of higher socioeconomic status), it’s undeniable that modern media generally adheres to a strict white beauty standard, which excludes and hurts any woman or man that doesn’t fit.

While this makeup tutorial is great for some quick laughs, it also leaves us with a lot to think about. Here it is the full video below:

How to Get BIG Asian Eyes with Fake Lashes (Video Tutorial)

Is there anything wrong with small, sharp eyes? Absolutely not. A number of Asia’s most popular models and celebs rock small eyes.

Despite this, there is no doubt that big eyes are currently the desired look in Asia and it seems like people will stop at nothing to get it. We can’t even count all the ways Asians have tried to achieve bigger eyes. There are big pupil lenses, tons of “big eye” makeup methods, the popular double eyelid surgery, eyelid tape, eyelid glue, and (we kid you not) double eyelid training glasses.

Today, we’re gonna keep it simple. What’s an easy way to get bigger eyes without hurting your wallet with surgery? False eyelashes.

Makeup guru xteeener is here to show us all a couple of tips and tricks with fake lashes so we can get big Asian eyes.

TIP #1: Choose the right kind of glue.

There are tons of false eyelash glues available. Be sure to check out your options. Some dry on clear while others dry on black. Some are dispensed from a tube while others are applied with a wand. Don’t be afraid to explore.

TIP #2: Be careful when removing the lashes.
You may cause the lash to lose its shape if you remove them harshly. xteeener shows us various ways in the video below.

TIP #3: Trim your lashes.
Before any gluing goes on, measure and trim your lashes to avoid discomfort.

TIP #4 Patience.
Wait 10-30 seconds after applying the glue to the lash band. This way, you’ll avoid the lash slipping and sliding out of place.

TIP #5: You have options.
Some lashes are attached to a thick black band while others have a clear band. You can choose between natural-looking lashes, full lashes and even doll lashes. Be sure to explore. xteeener gives a number of great lash suggestions you can try out.

TIP #6: Layers.
If you want a more full/voluminous look, don’t be afraid to layer lashes on top of one another. Layering lashes of different lengths and volume are even better.

TIP #7: Placement is everything.
You can drastically alter the shape of your eye depending on the way you place your fake lashes. Check it out in the video below.

TUTORIAL: Electric Winged Eyes

Everybody loves the winged eyeliner trend. It’s chic, fun and effortlessly intensifies the eyes! This summer, word has it that the latest summer trend for eye makeup is electric eyes. Urban Decay has recently released an electric eyeshadow palette, called the Electric Pressed Pigment Palette that you can buy for $49 dollars on Urban Decay’s website.

At a first glance it may not seem like the most practical palette for your everyday look. It oddly reminds me of my childhood-favorite, Lisa Frank, with all its bright, slightly blinding neon colors.

So the question is, how on earth are you supposed to make those colors look attractive on your face? If I tried this myself at home, I would probably end up looking like a trippy clown.

Thank goodness for makeup guru and beauty blogger Jen Chae’s (known as frmheadtotoe on her Youtube channel) tutorial, where she teaches us how to combine the electric palette with the winged eyeliner that looks effortlessly cool!

Tutorial: Get Instant Double Eyelids (Without Surgery!)

Currently, South Korea has the world’s highest per capita rate of cosmetic plastic surgery. In fact, Miss Korea Kim Yumi had absolutely no problem discussing her multiple procedures. Then there’s the woman who was so obsessed with Miranda Kerr‘s looks that she decided to go under the knife in an effort to look like the Australian Victoria’s Secret model. This phenomenon has become so normalized that a television show called “Let’s Beauty” allows audiences to follow along with someone’s cosmetic transformation.

Among the various cosmetic surgeries, the double eyelid surgery is the most requested and popular procedure for East Asians. The double eyelid surgery is designed to create or enhance the eyelid crease. The procedure is known to be simple and quick. As a result, many women appear to be getting the procedure done even in their teenage years.

Despite the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures, some people refuse to go under the knife and have looked for other ways to enhance their physical features. For instance, some Asian women are turning to photoshop for that confidence boost.

Then, there are some who turn to make up. If you’re hoping to get the appearance of a double eyelid, but you’re not planning on getting surgery for it, we’ve got just the thing. Here’s a tutorial on how to achieve a double eyelid using just make up.

Audrey’s Days of Summer | Summer Hair: Braids

It’s summertime which means heat and humidity. Here are a few easy braids that will keep your hair out of your face. The best way to learn how to braid is to practice, practice, practice! Each braid can be worn in various ways so try a different style out every day!

A secret tip: Rub in a leave-in conditioner or serum before braiding your hair (I like to use unrefined coconut oil). It not only makes your hair easier to braid, but it also sinks in and conditions damaged hair. At the end of the day, rinse it out.
