In an age where “check her out” means online and not from across the room, columnist Paul Nakayama wonders if internet pre-screening makes for better and more efficient dating.
A lot’s changed in the dating scene in the 10 years I’ve been with Audrey Magazine. I was recently re- minded of how much that is true when my editors asked me if guys also engaged in Internet stalking, particularly prior to going on a date. I remember this little website called Asian Avenue where all of a sudden there was this tremendous pool of girls you could potentially date. I say “potentially” because there’s also this little thing called probability and the chances are that more girls just mean more “no’s.” But back then, if you put a person’s name in a search field, you didn’t get much. Whatever a girl wanted you to know, she herself had to plant. It was a tenuous representation at best and a case of Catfish usually. I mean, if you wanted to see some photos, you usually had to sift through fuzzy misrepresentations that had a lot of shadows or a conspicuous amount of floor plants covering her face. Or maybe it was just me, and I just happened to get IM’ed by girls that admired the style of Bigfoot photos. These days, it’s a wholly different battlefield.

ABOUT 21 and Over
On Thursday January 31st, KoreAm and Audrey hosted an advance screening of Bullet To The Head starring Sylvester Stallone and Sung Kang. Sure enough, we couldn’t have asked for a better turn out! A number of celebrities showed up to support Sung Kang including Amy Hill, Brooke Lee, Archie Kao, Booboo and Fivel Stewart, James Kyson, Brian Tee, and many more. Kang arrived onto the red carpet and caused a buzz of excitement from media and fans alike. The humble actor discussed everything from his character in the film to the rise of Asians in the media. CGV Cinema’s was filled with excitement that night for this action packed film.
Now that Downton Abbey is done, I’m in some serious need of a good ol’ fashioned love story. I’ve been looking forward to Freida Pinto‘s next film, Trishna, due out next Friday, but now I, along with you, our Audrey readers, can watch the movie for FREE and talk to Freida Pinto herself about the film!
Audrey Magazine and KoreAm Journal invites you to a special advanced screening of The Hangover II on May 24th in LA.

Every year, there seems to be one majorly buzzed-about film with a heavy Asian American ensemble cast. This year, Quentin Lee’s The People I’ve Slept With is it. Starring Karin Anna Cheung and a slew of other sexies including Archie Kao, Randall Park and Lynn Chen, the film revolves around one woman’s frisky ways causing her to get knocked up without knowing who the babydaddy is. This is definitely not your typical Asian American romantic comedy. Which is why you should definitely check it out…With Audrey! And Angry Asian Man!
On August 28th, Audrey Gets Angry. Seriously. Let me explain.
The People I’ve Slept With will be playing in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Sunset 5 with a cast and crew Q&A moderated by Angry Asian Man’s Phil Yu. Following that, head on over to Libertine on Sunset, where Audrey is hosting an intimate after-party with the stars of the film. Karin Anna Cheung, Lynn Chen, Archie Kao, writer Koji Steven Sakai, producer Stanley Yung and director Quentin Lee are already slated to appear.
To attend, RSVP to email@example.com. If you attend the after party, you might even get a chance to win two VIP tickets to Audrey’s Night Out 2010— the hottest fashion event for the Asian American community.
So, to sum it all up, a night to watch the hottest AA film of the year, hang with the stars and possibly win tickets to another fabulous event? This could be better than sex.
