The Designer Collaboration of Our Dreams is Really Happening: Phillip Lim x Target!
Post by Kanara • May 09, 2013 • Post a comment

Target seems to always bring in our favorite Asian designers for a collaboration: Richard Chai, Thakoon, Jason Wu, and recently, Prabal Gurung – and now – wait for it – PHILLIP LIM. Target officially made the announcement earlier this morning, naming Lim as the latest designer to join the ranks of other designers to produce a collection with the retail giant. The 100 piece collection (for women AND men) will make its debut on September 15, with pieces ranging from $29.99 to $299.99. The looks will feature “a classic fall palette of neutral tones and prints.”

Alright, this absolutely wants to make me skip the summer season and go right into fall. September 15 is too far away!

Asians in Fashion | Best of April 2012
Post by Kanara • April 27, 2012 • Post a comment

In previous years, Asian models and designers have been been taking large strides. For example, more than ever – we are beginning to see more Asian faces gracing the pages of the world’s top fashion magazines, walking the runways of renowned fashion designers (40% of the models walking were women of Asian descent during New York Fashion Week in February 2012), and featured in international ad campaigns for popular brands. Fashion designers of Asian descent have also been making a name for themselves, such as designer collaborations with national retail chains such as Target, H&M, and Macy’s. Follow our monthly series as we name the best of the best featuring Asians in Fashion.

New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim

Audrey contributor Tamae Ishii attended the 3.1 Phillip Lim show during New York Fashion Week earlier this month. Here, she gives us an inside look.

The 3.1 Phillip Lim show was held at the cavernous venue that is the Park Avenue Armory — a favorite of the young and fashionable, including notable attendee Kanye West dressed in a bright fuchsia blazer.

The theme was “Puzzles,” which was exemplified by the giant white puzzle pieces that were strategically placed along the wide runway.

The predominant colors in Lim’s Spring 2011 collection were his trademark neutrals — camel, black, taupe
and white — with a touch of azure blue as an accent.

There was plenty of layering and asymmetry going on, but ultimately Lim showed a lot of very wearable, city-chic looks that will be popular with the hip crowd come spring.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Phillip Lim
Post by Anna • May 01, 2010 • Post a comment

It’s May and that means it’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Of course, for us here at Audrey, every day is a celebration of APA heritage, but it’s nice to have a month where all Americans are focused on us and our heritage!

Like Nordstrom. Once again, they’re honoring APA Heritage Month, this time by partnering with CFDA Swarovski Award-winning designer extraordinaire Phillip Lim on a limited-edition T-shirt.

(Side note: We are huge fans of Lim here at Audrey, ever since we interviewed him, pre-3.1, for our Oct/Nov 2004 issue, and again in Oct/Nov 2005 when he debuted 3.1 phillip lim. We’re so excited that he’s gotten the international recognition he so deserves!)

The graphic T-shirt design, which goes for $85, is actually Lim’s signature in repetition. “It’s simple, but acknowledging my full name was a part of growing up as an Asian American and accepting the two cultures that I am a part of,” said Lim.

Said Lim: “I was interested in this project because I was impressed by Nordstrom’s past success in raising funds to help Asian Pacific American children in need.” To that end, all after-cost proceeds goes to the OCA, a national organization dedicated to serving Asian Pacific Americans. “This is a cause that’s personal to me, and I hope that in my small way I am able to contribute to this great program,” said Lim.

The Phillip Lim T-shirt is sold exclusively at Nordstrom, and for this month only! Get it here, or at one of the Nordstrom stores below.
