About:
FROM OSCAR® WINNING DIRECTOR ANG LEE COMES THE INSPIRATIONAL. EPIC JOURNEY, LIFE OF PI, ON BLU-RAY COMBO PACK & DVD MARCH 12

Life of Pi is the film that earned Taiwanese American director Ang Lee his second Best Director Academy Award at this year’s Oscars. Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Yann Martel, the film stars newcomer Suraj Sharma as Pi, alongside veteran actors including Irrfan Khan (as the older Pi), Tabu, Adil Hussain and Gérard Depardieu.

Lee brought what many thought was an un-filmable story onto the big screen. With the help of the visual effects company Rhythm and Hues Studios, the Life of Pi team staged a devastating shipwreck, turned a water tank in Taiwan into the middle of the Pacific Ocean and brought to life a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker shares much screen time on a lifeboat with Suraj Sharma’s Pi.

In addition to Lee’s Best Director win, Life of Pi took home three other Academy Awards (Cinematography, Visual Effects, and Original Score), earning the most Oscar wins of any film this year.

The film is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.

Oscar Winning Documentary “Saving Face” to air March 8th on HBO
Post by Florence • March 08, 2012 • Post a comment

During the night of the Oscar’s, an award was given for a film not too familiar to the general public.  Pakistan’s “Saving Face”, a 40-minute documentary focuses on the senseless acid attacks against women in Pakistan, was this year’s winner for Best Documentary Short.

After the film’s victory at the Oscars, a first for Pakistan, co-director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, 33, gave a stirring speech in which she dedicated the film to “all the women in Pakistan who are working for change.”, and adding, “Don’t give up on your dreams.”

Obaid-Chinoy is Pakistani, and was born in Karachi to Urdu speaking parents.  She graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government, and from Stanford University with a master’s in International Policy Studies in 2003, and a master’s in Communication in 2004.

Web interest in the film immediately jumped after the Oscar win. Yahoo! searches for the film surged an astounding 3,362%, demonstrating that people are clearly interested in learning about the history and reasoning behind these horrifying acid attacks.

“Saving Face” is set to air on March 8th on HBO.

True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld Is a Style Star
Post by Janice • February 02, 2011 • Post a comment

Hailee Steinfeld’s tour-de-force performance as Mattie Ross in the Coen brother’s highly-acclaimed True Grit this year proves that the 14-year-old is a an acting force to be reckoned with. Steinfeld, who’s father is Jewish and mother is of Filipino-African American descent, has been racking up awards all season long.

Her red carpet appearances indicate another thing: this teenager is also a fashion force to be reckoned with! Let’s check out some of Hailee’s hottest styles.

At the New York premiere of True Grit, Steinfeld perfectly dressed her age in bouncy waves and a sparkly mini.

Steinfeld channeled True Grit‘s western wear in this black Victorian-styled dress and booties. We’re not totally digging the fuzzballs though.

The actress showed true grit by pairing turquoise pumps with a plum-hued frock. Simple but classy!

We wish we looked like this when we were 14! A sleek shift matched her sleeker side ponytail and even though the former model is already 5’11,” she was still daring enough to go higher with black strappy platforms.

This nude one-shoulder gave Steinfeld a total goddess-y feel.

The Golden Globes nominee was the epitome of grace in a white gown and tight ponytail. Forget Black Swan, we want a white one!

We only have one complaint about Steinfeld’s recent Oscar nod — that she wasn’t nominated for Best Actress. (Steinfeld is in the Supporting category.) But we still can’t wait to see what the stylish star is going to don for the biggest night in Tinseltown.  And we’re hoping she heads home that night with the best accessory of all, the golden statue.
