What were you doing ten years ago (2003)?
“I was 13 and making a short horror film called, The Beast, starring my sister as a carrie/hulk-esque girl monster hybrid. ”
What is your favorite memory of LAAPFF?
“This is my first year attending, but so far, everyone’s been so supportive and encouraging.”
Tell us why we should watch your film in this year’s film festival.
“You’ll get bang for your buck for sure. At 34 minutes it’s a pretty long short and there’s everything you’d want in a film playing at LAAPF. A hot asian lead, current heart-wrenching themes and it’s made by undergraduate students from UC Irvine!”

Yung At Heart
Elodie Yung may kick some serious ass (with double katana swords!) as Jinx in the upcoming film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but we get to the heart of what really matters to the French Cambodian actress.
This summer is already gearing up to be a highly anticipated movie blockbuster season – with one of them being The Wolverine. This past week, a teaser trailer and stills were posted on Entertainment Weekly, which featured Japanese models Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima, who play Mariko and Yukio respectively. The Wolverine marks their first Hollywood production (as well as Okamoto’s first foray into acting). I’ll admit, while Tao Okamoto is one of my favorite models, Rila Fukushima looks pretty badass. Check them all out!
Audrey’s beloved covergirl, Maggie Q, has been casted for the futuristic action adventure Divergent. Based on the New York Times best selling novel by Veronica Roth, Divergent pulls us into a future world where people are divided into five factions based on their personalities. Our main character, Beatrice Prior, struggles to break free from the divided society.
Maggie Q will be playing the character Tori. She will share the screen with Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb and Christian Madsen. Summit Entertainment hopes that Divergent will follow in the footsteps of their very successful TWILIGHT SAGA and Lionsgate’s THE HUNGER GAMES franchise.
The anticipated film is set to be released in March 2014.

At the stroke of midnight on August 15th, 1947, as India declares independence from Great Britain, two babies are switched at birth by a nurse in a Bombay hospital. And so it is that Saleem Sinai, the bastard child of a beggar woman, and Shiva, the only son of a wealthy couple, are fated to live the destinies meant for each other. Over the next three decades, Saleem and Shiva find themselves on opposite sides of many a conflict, whether it be because of class, politics, romantic rivalry, or the constantly shifting borders that are drawn every time neighbors become enemies and decide to split their newborn nation into two, and then three, warring countries. Through it all, the lives of Saleem and Shiva are mysteriously intertwined. They are also inextricably linked to the history of India itself, which takes them on a whirlwind journey full of trials, triumphs, and disasters.

Although Twilight fans know Booboo Stewart as an actor who plays the kindhearted shapeshifter Seth Clearwater (he recently starred in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2), longer-time supporters have been following Stewart, the singer/dancer/guitarist/drummer/martial artist, on YouTube as early as 2007. There are videos of young Booboo performing as a member of the Disney pop group T-Squad and rocking out in his band Echoes of Angels. Booboo — along with his sisters Maegan, Fivel, and Sage — grew up on movie sets, since their father was a stunt coordinator in Hollywood. Booboo did his first movie stunt around age 10, and when Fivel saw her big brother doing it, she wanted in on the action. Their martial arts training taught them to be comfortable onstage, and they’ve both been singing and dancing in front of huge crowds since they were pre-teens.
“I think the first concert we did together was in Chicago, opening for Demi Lovato,” says Fivel. “We did it last minute, and our dad ended up driving 36 hours straight, so we could perform there.”
Now 18 and 16, Booboo and Fivel have joined forces with friends Davin Baltazar and Ryan Cook to create their new band 5L.
“5L is just a cool way to spell Fivel’s name,” explains Booboo. “It’s her band really, so it’s only appropriate.”
Fivel dances and sings lead vocals, while Booboo plays the guitar and sings supporting vocals. This arrangement takes advantage of their strengths: Booboo started playing the guitar when he was about 10 years old after receiving an electric guitar for Christmas, and Fivel has wanted to be a singer for as long as
she can remember.
Next up, they play twins in the film Hansel and Gretel — fitting, as people always thought they were twins growing up. Their music will also be featured in the film’s closing credits.
Over the weekend, director Brian Singer unveiled new names to his current cast of X-Men (which already boasts Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Halle Berry as Storm, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor X and Magneto): Fan Bingbing, Daniel Cudmore (who is reprising his role as Colossus from X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand), and Booboo Stewart. It’s already been speculated that Fan will play Blink, a character with teleportation powers and pupil-free eyes. No word on Stewart’s role yet, who previously played Seth Clearwater in the Twilight series.
Check out actress Katie Chang in the new teaser trailer of “The Bling Ring”. Based on actual events, the film follows a group of teenagers who rob the home of celebrities. “The Bling Ring” also stars British actress Emma Watson.

FROM OSCAR® WINNING DIRECTOR ANG LEE COMES THE INSPIRATIONAL. EPIC JOURNEY, LIFE OF PI, ON BLU-RAY COMBO PACK & DVD MARCH 12
Life of Pi is the film that earned Taiwanese American director Ang Lee his second Best Director Academy Award at this year’s Oscars. Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Yann Martel, the film stars newcomer Suraj Sharma as Pi, alongside veteran actors including Irrfan Khan (as the older Pi), Tabu, Adil Hussain and Gérard Depardieu.
Lee brought what many thought was an un-filmable story onto the big screen. With the help of the visual effects company Rhythm and Hues Studios, the Life of Pi team staged a devastating shipwreck, turned a water tank in Taiwan into the middle of the Pacific Ocean and brought to life a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker shares much screen time on a lifeboat with Suraj Sharma’s Pi.
In addition to Lee’s Best Director win, Life of Pi took home three other Academy Awards (Cinematography, Visual Effects, and Original Score), earning the most Oscar wins of any film this year.
The film is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
