A video of two women performing in the 10th World Wushu Championships in Toronto, Canada, was uploaded onto YouTube 5 years ago. But it wasn’t until this past week that the video began getting the sort of attention it deserves.
The unbelievable video has resurfaced online and has been making its way into viral fame. The two female performers put on an intricately choreographed battle performance inspired by traditional Chinese martial arts, otherwise known as Wushu.
Find out what all the big fuss is about below.
Want to see more incredible Wushu? Lucky for you, this wasn’t the first martial arts video to ever go viral. This past summer, 7-year-old Mahiro-chan proved that despite her smal stature, she was just as capable of kicking butt with her martial arts.
Of course, if all of this is too rough for you, you can always choose to watch these two cuties. Sure, they may not be as intense as the martial artists in the previous videos, but they definitely reached viral fame. After all, who doesn’t love cute, Asian babies?
Back in October of last year, we showed you just how cute martial arts can be when performed by little Asian toddlers. The video, most known as “The Cutest Taekwondo Match Ever,” features two little girls gently swaying their hips and lightly hitting each other to show off their taekwondo skills.
Of course, this isn’t always the case. Take 7-year-old Mahiro-chan as an example. She proves that little Asian girls can be much more than “cute” while performing martial arts.
Mahiro-chan begins her routine with a vicious scream and as soon as she begins showing off her moves, one thing is clear: this little girl can kick ass. Mahiro-chan moves with an intensity, fierceness and speed that would impress any martial artist.
Mahiro-chan is practicing Kankudai which is also known as Kūshankū (クーシャンク, 公相君) or Kūsankū. It is an open hand form of karate kata that is known to be basic, but very technical and long to perform.
Apparently, it’s also extremely impressive. Check it below and don’t feel too bad about your own fighting skills after seeing this– she can probably beat up all of us.
Anyone who is skilled in the art of judo knows that it should not be taken lightly. Although the name judo means the “gentle or yielding way,” an intense Judo match is far from gentle.
The objective of this martial art, which is derived from jujutsu, is to throw or takedown an opponent to the ground. You may immobilize or subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke.
The idea behind judo is to use your opponent’s strength against them and adapt to changing circumstances. Because it does not solely focus on one’s strength, judo can be mastered by anyone regardless of their body type.
Although judo welcomes all, we certainly didn’t expect to see these tiny girls on the mat for a judo match.
Our initial fear of the young girls getting hurt is quickly erased. We can’t help but squeal at how cute these girls are in their mini judo outfits. They bow to one another enthusiastically and take turns pinning one another to the ground.
By the end of the match, the girls simply run towards each other and hug before falling to the ground giggling. Watch the video below.
We’ve definitely shown you quite a number of cute children on this site. In July, we brought you the Adorable Asian Baby Overload. More recently, we threw some Halloween costumes on these babies and came up with the Halloween Costume Edition. Needless to say, these adorable children pull at our heartstrings and apparently we’re not the only ones.
This video has an incredible 1,430,000+ views and over 3,000 likes. Clearly, many people were just as taken with the cuteness. Although this video was put up in 2011, it appears to be going through yet another round of viral attention. This is probably thanks to Buzzfeed and Reddit who have called this “The Cutest Taekwondo Match Ever.”
Don’t believe us? See it for yourself below and don’t worry. Check out those smiles- they’re far from hurting each other. In fact, they might just end up hurting us after smiling so much.
Yesterday morning, Zhang Ziyi made a guest appearance on Good Morning America in front of Times Square, New York. To counter the gloomy weather, Ziyi wore a stunning Vionnet Resort 2014 drop-waist ribbed dress.
But that was only the beginning of the day. Despite the rain, Zhang Ziyi was all smiles because last night was the premiere of the much-anticipated Chinese martial arts film, The Grandmaster.
The film also stars Hong Kong Film Award winner Tony Leung Chiu-Wai (In the Mood for Love). Directed by Wong Kar Wai, The Grandmaster follows the life of legendary kung fu master, Ip Man (also known as the trainer of equally renowned Bruce Lee) during the chaotic time after the fall of China’s last dynasty.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer to see this film. The Grandmaster will be released in theaters in Los Angeles and New York in on August 23rd and nationwide on August 30th.
