Image of The Day: Unbelievably Cute Food Art

Move over adorable rice pandas, we’ve found something even more squeal-worthy. Samantha Lee, a Malaysian mother-of-two, claims that she is not a professional chef and has not been to culinary school. Despite this, she has been able to produce some of the most impressive works of food art.

Lee began Bento making in 2008 while still pregnant with her second daughter. With a new baby on the way, she needed a method to encourage her eldest daughter to start eating independently. This is when her creativity and skilled hands took over.

Using ordinary household tools such as knives and scissors, Lee began turning her daughter’s food into adorable works of art that featured popular characters from mangas, movies, cartoons and more.

“I’m just an ordinary, regular and average mom, crazy about making mess in the kitchen.” Lee says. But thanks to this “mess,” Lee has become an international media sensation. Lee has grabbed the attention of people worldwide and is now a kids party planner.

Check out her must-see collection of food art. Trust us. After seeing these images, you’ll be positively envious of her daughters.

Image of The Day: Disney Princesses Dress Up For Halloween

Recently, Disney Princesses have been getting quite a bit of attention. Just the other day Mulan was revealed to be bisexual on Once Upon A Time and last month, we got a look at Disney princesses portrayed by Asian Americans.

With Halloween around the corner, we can only expect the hype around these Disney Princesses to get larger. Year after year, more young girls wish to put on a costume of their favorite princess and act out a Disney fairytale.

But what if the tables were turned? Artist  Isaiah K Stephens decided to show how some of our favorite princesses would look like if they dressed up as their favorite superhero or heroine for Halloween.

Some of our favorites include Rapunzel as Japanese manga heroine Sailor Moon, Tianna as Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Jasmine and Chun-Li from Street Fighter.

Check out more Disney Princesses dressed up and stay tuned for a second set which will include Alice, Kida, Megara, Jane Porter, Tinkerbell, Charlotte La boff,  Esmeralda, and Sally.

Image of The Day: Tiny Girl, Giant Totoro

It seems like fans everywhere are trying to keep the Miyazaki fandom alive despite the Miyazaki’s confirmed retirement. Just last month we found an adorable little girl cosplaying as Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Now we’ve found a tiny girl with what could be the largest Totoro plush we’ve seen yet. The image is mimicking the film’s famous rain scene.

When news broke out that Hayao Miyazaki was retiring, fans everywhere wished it was simply a false rumor. For years, Miyazaki brought us whimsical animations such as My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke. In 2003, the Ghibli studio co-founder won an Oscar for his breathtaking feature film, Spirited Away.

Although Miyazaki has shown a mastery of his craft, he has firmly stated that he is done with films. The 72-year-old confirmed that his film The Wind Rises is his last. The film, which focuses on a fictional biography of Japan’s Zero airplane creator Jiro Horikoshi, has already become a box-office hit in Japan since its release in July.

With a handful of awards, critical acclaim, and worldwide recognition, Miyazaki will retire knowing that he achieved what he set out to do. According to CBC News, Miyazaki commented, ”I wanted to convey the message to children that this life is worth living. This message has not changed.”

While our hearts are saddened by the finale of a talented individual, his work continues to live on.

Image of The Day: The Cutest Firefighter EVER

A few months ago, we brought you The Adorable Asian Baby Overload which featured, you guessed it, some of the cutest Asian babies trending social media.

Clearly, we didn’t catch every cutie out there. This little girl definitely earns a spot on our list of adorable Asian babies.

Spirit Magazine recently hosted a contest asking their readers to submit photos. We’re not quite sure what the criteria for this contest was, but since this photo was printed in the current issue we’re gonna go ahead and guess that it was chosen for its cuteness.

Here are some other cuties that should have made it onto our Adorable Asian Baby Overload List:

Image of The Day: No, That’s Not A Cloud

Is it a cat? An oversized cotton ball? A stuffed animal?

No, it’s a bunny.

To be exact, this is an Angora rabbit and it’s one of the oldest types of domestic rabbits. In fact, it was a popular pet with French royalty in the mid-18th century particularly because of its docile and well-mannered nature. They are often bred for, you guessed it, their wool. With wool said to be more soft and fine than cashmere, this rabbit takes quite a bit of grooming and maintenance.

The  American Rabbit Breeders’ Association (ARBA) recognizes various types of Angora rabbits from English, French, Giant, and Satin. Other breeds include German, Chinese, Swiss, Finnish, Korean, and St. Lucian. Each breed produces a different quality and quantity of fiber, but Angora fiber is generally $10-$16 per ounce.

This little guy (or girl) has been making its way around social media. Just about everyone seems amused with the peculiar, over-sized puffball. Clearly the owner has nothing but pride for it.

Image of The Day: Kunal Nayyar Supports Miss America Nina Davuluri

There were many reactions to Nina Davuluri winning Miss America. Unfortunately, many of these reactions were not the praise and compliments that are typically showered upon a newly crowned Miss America.

Twitter exploded with racist comments about the first Indian Miss America. Many tweets referenced 9/11, called her a terrorist and even refused to acknowledge her as an American despite her being born and raised in New York. As expected, this gained nationwide attention, though not the attention we would hope for.

In the midst of all the undeserved hate and racism, some good came from this. Many individuals fought back in support of Davuluri and her well-deserved title.

Among these supporters was The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar. The actor tweeted his congratulations, then quickly commented on the negative reactions to Miss America.

Nayyar, who was featured in our Summer 2013 issue, gives us yet another reason to love him.

The animated film follows a young witch, Kiki, who must navigate through her adolescent years. As cute as the animated version was, we have to admit that the real version of Kiki is even better.
