Thanks to the efforts of the online group 18 Million Rising, the smartphone app “Make me Asian” was removed from Google Play today.The app allowed its users to turn their faces into stereotypical Asian caricatures. Believing that this app perpetuated negative and offensive stereotypes, 18 Million Rising started a twitter campaign aimed at Google to remove the app. Their efforts were joined by Peter Chin, a pastor in DC, who started a petition on Change.org.
