Q&A with Harry Shum Jr. for White Frog
Post by Ethel • May 08, 2013 • Post a comment

We caught up with Harry Shum Jr. and he told us all the details we need to know about his upcoming film White Frog

Audrey Magazine: Can you tell us a bit about this film and then about your character specifically?
Harry Shum Jr
: White Frog is about a suburban family who looks perfect on the outside, but isn’t perfect on the inside. They’re struck with this tragic death that rocks the whole family. Nick Young, who is played by BooBoo Stewart, suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and has to try and piece things together that will hopefully bring the family back together. I play Chaz Young- the older brother of Nick and he’s basically the glue of the family. He’s kinda the perfect, athletic, older brother that seems to have it all together, but really he’s hiding something from his family that changes their lives forever.

Its a film about family, love, and friendship and how we need that to hold it together and deal with everything in life.

Fall 2012 | Obsessed: Booboo and Fivel Stewart

Although Twilight fans know Booboo Stewart as an actor who plays the kindhearted shapeshifter Seth Clearwater (he recently starred in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2), longer-time supporters have been following Stewart, the singer/dancer/guitarist/drummer/martial artist, on YouTube as early as 2007. There are videos of young Booboo performing as a member of the Disney pop group T-Squad and rocking out in his band Echoes of Angels. Booboo — along with his sisters Maegan, Fivel, and Sage — grew up on movie sets, since their father was a stunt coordinator in Hollywood. Booboo did his first movie stunt around age 10, and when Fivel saw her big brother doing it, she wanted in on the action. Their martial arts training taught them to be comfortable onstage, and they’ve both been singing and dancing in front of huge crowds since they were pre-teens.

“I think the first concert we did together was in Chicago, opening for Demi Lovato,” says Fivel. “We did it last minute, and our dad ended up driving 36 hours straight, so we could perform there.”

Now 18 and 16, Booboo and Fivel have joined forces with friends Davin Baltazar and Ryan Cook to create their new band 5L.

“5L is just a cool way to spell Fivel’s name,” explains Booboo. “It’s her band really, so it’s only appropriate.”

Fivel dances and sings lead vocals, while Booboo plays the guitar and sings supporting vocals. This arrangement takes advantage of their strengths: Booboo started playing the guitar when he was about 10 years old after receiving an electric guitar for Christmas, and Fivel has wanted to be a singer for as long as
she can remember.

Next up, they play twins in the film Hansel and Gretel — fitting, as people always thought they were twins growing up. Their music will also be featured in the film’s closing credits.

Director Brian Singer tweeted a picture of his current line of X-Men over the weekend.

Over the weekend, director Brian Singer unveiled new names to his current cast of X-Men (which already boasts Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Halle Berry as Storm, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor X and Magneto): Fan Bingbing, Daniel Cudmore (who is reprising his role as Colossus from X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand), and Booboo Stewart. It’s already been speculated that Fan will play Blink, a character with teleportation powers and pupil-free eyes. No word on Stewart’s role yet, who previously played Seth Clearwater in the Twilight series.

The Wonder Girls Premiere
Post by Melody • February 15, 2012 • Post a comment

On the night of Friday, January 20th, the much anticipated premiere of the Wonder Girls’ self-titled movie was held at the CGV Cinemas along with the debut of their 3-D video for their new single “The DJ is Mine.” Before I even arrived to work the red carpet, screaming fans were already gathered by the cinema waiting for their idols Yenny, Yubin, Sun, Sohee and Lim. First to step onto the red carpet though was the School Gyrls, followed by Booboo and Fivel Stewart, Wes Aderhold, J.Y. Park, Nick Cannon and more. As the Wonder Girls made their appearance, every minute you would hear screams of “I love you _____ (insert one or more of the girls’ names here)!”

The Wonder Girls (from left): Yenny, Lim, Yubin, Sohee, Sun.

I got a chance to ask the girls a few quick questions about the TeenNick project and how it’s been entering the US market.

Winter Issue Extra: BooBoo Stewart
Post by Melody • January 18, 2012 • Post a comment

A few months ago, I got to sit down and chat with Booboo Stewart – Boy Wonder of our Winter ’11-12 issue – to find out more about him and his experiences. He was super nice and humble; the whole time we were just smiling and laughing while he enjoyed his plate of nachos and I sipped on my Earl Grey tea. We started with a quick round of questions about his preferences before we got to the more serious questions.

ARTrageous Time at Glamorama
Post by Melody • October 05, 2011 • Post a comment

“High fashion. Fierce performances. One unforgettable night.” That really sums it up. It’s cliché, but I honestly had the time of my life at Glamorama, which was held at the Orpheum Theatre downtown on the night of September 23. I mean, fashion shows by nine established brands, performances by none other than Far East Movement and Cee Lo Green plus various dance routines – what more could I ask for? It’s one of the biggest events I’ve been to so far with the hottest celebrities and it’s all for a good cause! There really is no better way to use entertainment as a way to give back to such an important cause such as AIDS and HIV services, prevention, education and research.

A-List Cast for ‘White Frog’ Means Promising Film
Post by han • August 18, 2011 • Post a comment

Who is the White Frog?

I don’t know either, but coming this fall from Wentertainment Productions and Chris Lee Productions is the new indie feature White Frog directed by Quentin Lee (The People I’ve Slept With). Written by mother-daughter team Fabienne Wen and Ellie Wen with playwright David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) as its script advisor, the film focuses on high school freshman Nick Young (The Twilight Saga‘s Booboo Stewart) who struggles with mild Asperger’s syndrome. The troubled and neglected teen idolizes his perfect older brother Chaz (Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr.), but his life takes a sharp turn and a leap after fate plays a hand in his brother’s life.
