Seeing Clearly: A Talk with Michael Lee of Mezzmer

Between owning advertising firms and owning an up-and-coming eyewear company, Michael Lee is a very busy man. I was fortunate enough to snag a phone interview with the co-owner of the renowned eye wear company, Mezzmer. Michael, the advertising expert turned business savvy entrepreneu, has no problem juggling both industries. “I am very busy all the time, but I love doing what I do,” he says.

For those of you who don’t about this new eyewear brand, Mezzmer is an eyewear company specializing in customizable frames at affordable prices. Micheal says, “At Mezzmer, it’s all about affordability in quality eyewear. Customers no longer have to deal with the headache of doctor bills and all of that mess.” The reason for starting this company? Michael tells me, “It’s simply because me and my brother wear glasses. We know that in the United States, the eyewear industry is far behind in making affordable quality eyewear without all those healthcare insurances and messy paperwork.” Mezzmer is simple. Mezzmer is a family business that was started by Michael and his brother Roger. Michael spends his days focusing on the advertising portion of the company while his brother who is in New York on Wall Street focuses on the business aspect. Coming from two different branches of business, the Lee brothers didn’t imagine that they would start their own eyewear company. Michael remembers, “I went to school for engineering, and then went into advertising. I would have never known that I would start my own eyewear company.” His brother, Roger, has been on Wall Street for quite some time now. But now, they are both happy that they have come to creating this company. “We know the hassle of having to deal with costly bills just for prescripted eyewear. Why not make it easier for the customers?”
When it comes to working with family, the Lee brothers are the dream team. Michael happily says, “We work well together. Even though we are brothers, we share mutual understandings about this business and it’s been going great.” And it definitely shows that their workmanship has come a long way. Mezzmer was recently featured in the New York Times and Lucky Magazine. With a simple objective of helping others to have affordable eyewear and even donating a portion to charity, the humble mission has definitely caught the attention of many.
