Move over, Martha Stewart! Crane & Canopy is an up-and-coming bedding company of high quality that is comparable to designer brands out there right now. With elegant designs perfect for your bedrooms (and very comfortable looking too!), Crane & Canopy’s co-founder, Karin Shieh, chats with Audrey about how they got their start, their current collections, and future plans.
How did you get the company started?
When I purchased my first home, I wanted to decorate everything, but couldn’t find what I’d like in stores. That is when I decided I’d start my own company, with many designs. It was really scary in the beginning, talking to manufacturers and whatnot, but here we are today.
How do you and your co-founder decided or create designs for the bedding? Do you ever get into disagreements about what is chosen for the collections?
We try to look at overall trends of the year as well as different color and home decor trends. We have a great team that does this. As far as Chris, my co-founder, we don’t really disagree with designs. We’re pretty good at working together.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. My favorite places to find inspiration are vintage markers or bazaars. There is so much to see there. I also find inspiration when I travel. Right now, I really love Tokyo and the culture there. You can find inspiration anywhere.
Can you tell me about your current collections?
This collection is inspired by modern romance with positive energy. I want the woman who buys the bedding to exude in positive energy, with beautiful colors.
What kinds of collections do you have in store for the near future?
We’re definitely exploring our options. We’re looking at different segments for baby bedding, and maybe going into more options with the home and kitchen. I’m pretty excited, I think doing baby bedding would be so fun.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I just hope to be growing bigger as a company.
Can you find your collections in any stores?
No, you can only find them on our online store. We try to keep the cost low, and would not want it to be overpriced if bought in stores.
Be sure to check out their beautiful collections on the Crane & Canopy website!
