Kal Penn Responds to Being Called A “Racist Asshole” for Stop and Frisk Remarks

Earlier this week, actor Kal Penn put himself in the line of fire.
A federal judge had ruled that the Stop and Frisk Policy was unconstitutional and called for the New York Police Department to create a policy specifying where stops would be authorized. Many people fear that the Stop and Frisk policy would simply create an opportunity for racism, but Kal Penn seemed to disagree.
Penn shared a New York Post op/ed which argued for the benefits of the policy:
Needless to say, the public was outraged and saddened by this support. Tensions rose further when Penn responded to a particular statement concerning the Black and Latino community.
After days of enduring the public outrage, Kal Penn decided to speak up and share his side of the story:
“Twitter is great for communicating with fans, and for hearing new perspectives. Twitter sucks when you’re trying to explain your views on something complicated and nuanced that needs more than 140 characters. Or so I’ve learned.
Obviously, I am not a constitutional lawyer (and have never played one on TV). These days I tweet mostly about tacos and acting, but on Tuesday, I tweeted a link to Mayor Bloomberg’s op/ed on the “stop & frisk” decision, and in a matter of minutes I became a racist asshole who deserves to eeaaaat shiiiiiiiit. Huh?…”
