She’s quirky. She’s cute. She’s played at Carnegie Hall.
The Village Voice calls her piano technique “awe-inspiring.” And today her first solo piano CD, “Place To Be,” is out.
Inspired by all the places she has performed, Hiromi’s latest CD is a virtual musical travelogue, chronicling the magic of cities from New York City to Sicily, Bern to Boston. “Some places have such a special vibe,” said Hiromi. “Sometimes a melody emerges in and around a place without me having it think about it at all.”
Hiromi Uehara is not just a virtuoso; she’s a virtual phenom in Japan. (You know you’ve made it when you model for a Gap ad.)
To hear her lightning fast, almost discombobulating jazz pieces is an experience in a of itself. Check out a sampling, as well as video of Hiromi, here.
