From music and movies to charity events and Halloween festivities, the last week of October is packed with happenings that will soothe your ears, warm your soul, and unleash your Halloween persona.

RACHAEL YAMAGATA, 2011 CHESAPEAKE TOUR


Beautiful Japanese-Italian-German American singer-songwriter, Rachael Yamagata, just began her 2011 Tour on October 24 in Portland, Main’s Port City Music Hall. The tour is in celebration of the release of Yamagata’s third album, Chesapeake.

Chesapeake features an eclectic collection of songs projecting Yamagata’s optimism and hopefulness, showcasing her sultry and smoky voice, rich, layered harmonies, striking ballads and soulful grooves.  The tour will hit major U.S. cities and will finish off on December 22nd at New York City’s City Winery.

KCRW’s killer Halloween bash Masquerade feat. Dengue Fever


KCRW, the National Public Radio’s flagship station for Southern California, is holding a Masquerade bash just in time for Halloween.  This year, KCRW’s Jason “Nosferatu” Bentley has invited Dengue Fever, a six-member Cambodian band that combines their pop music and lyrics with psychedelic rock, to perform.

The Los Angles venue will include four separate stages, five uniquely themed ballrooms, the enticing antics of Vaudeville circus troupe Lucent Dossier, ghost stories from L.A.’s finest storytellers, a handful of frightfully tasty artisan food trucks, and some of the best costumes you’ve ever seen.

When: Saturday, October 29, 2011 9 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Friends Without A Border Presents Passage to Angkor


Friends Without A Border presents Passage to Angkor, its second annual Los Angeles gala at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.  The event is held to benefit Angkor Hospital for Children and related programs for the children of Cambodia.

The evening will feature exquisite dances performed by the Khmer Arts Ensemble, and will also include Khmer-influenced hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, as well as silent and live auctions.  DJ Mia Moretti will spin in Teddy’s Lounge for VIP after-party.

2011 U.S.- CHINA FILM SUMMIT


The Asia Society of Southern California’s Entertainment & Media/Asia Initiative (EMAsia) is proud to present a two-part panel discussion on U.S.-China film collaborations in financing, co-production, marketing and distribution.  During the summit Prominent Chinese and Hollywood film-industry leaders will share their experiences and strategies on how to successfully navigate the east-west film-making process.

Last year’s summit event drew in nearly 550 entertainment industry professionals.  This year, hundreds of industry leaders are expected to attend, including business and corporate executives, producers, and creative teams from both U.S. and China.

David Choi’s NEW ALBUM “FOREVER AND EVER”


Los Angeles Korean- American singer-songwriter, David Choi, is releasing his third album, “Forever and Ever”, on October 25, 2011.
