2012 is the year for K-Pop! At least, it seems so with three of Korea’s top girl groups all planning releases this year. The 9-member girl group that already has millions of fans around the world, Girl’s Generation, releases its 2011 hit “The Boys” with a special digital remix EP today in the US and Europe. The highly anticipated album is up for grabs today. Their December 20th release earned a Top 5 slot on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 Chart and features the talents of Teddy Riley, Snoop Dogg, and Lil Playy.
The Wonder Girls, the first Korean act to hit Billboard charts, is already making quite a show with their new US single “The DJ is Mine” that premiered just last week. A Teen Nick movie accompanying the single titled The Wonder Girls will premiere on February 2. The five aren’t new to American audiences, having worked with the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber before.
Though no official dates have been set, you can expect 2NE1’s new album as well, produced by the world famous will.i.am. 2NE1 have already introduced themselves to America on MTV Iggy’s Best New Bands Concert when they were crowned Best New Band of 2011. On January 7, will.i.am tweeted, “2NE1 is coming out crazy,” hinting at us to expect a release in the near future.
We can only wait and see how their catchy beats catch on in the US.
