Is your closet ready for spring? ‘Cause if you’re on the West Coast, you’ve got a bunch of reasons to get your shop on.

Kicking off in about 10 days in San Diego, THREAD Show, the multi-city shopping event now in its eighth year, will be promoting emerging designers and artists up and down the West Coast. At each show, THREAD showcases 100 of the top independent designers in each market, as well as cool music, art, food and entertainment from local talent.

And newly added for 2011 are new interactive spaces like the DIY Lounge, Pop-Up Nail Bar, Live Blogger Style-Off Series, THREAD Wellness Lounge and, yes, even a Man Cave so you can shop with your hunnee. Of course, they’ll still have their usual gift bags, photo booths, giveaways and trend showcases throughout the event.

Trend presenations at THREAD.

Some spring trends that’ll be showcased by local THREAD designers include:

  • Bohemian – earthy meets chic is the season’s groovy print
  • Florals – petal patterns are back in fresh colors and designs
  • Stripes – from thick to thin lines, stripes are all the rage
  • Wide-leg pants – flared cuts complement spring’s carefree vibe
  • White – highlight sun-kissed skin with zero color head-to-toe
  • Coral – the ultimate fresh and flattering spring shade
  • Maxi Skirts – go hippy chic with skirts of extreme lengths
  • Long Necklaces – bold chains and bright beads
  • Crossbody Bags – adds cool meets function to any spring wardrobe

“By allowing shoppers to skip the third-party retailer, THREAD gives trendsetters an opportunity to meet the designers face-to-face, feed the local economy, be kind to the environment and ensure products are locally-made and ethically produced,” explains THREAD Show spokesperson, Danielle Gano. And there’s plenty of Asian American design power behind this event, including Chi Stylezs by San Diego-based designer Jimothy, fellow San Diegan Vy Nguyen’s Vee Y. Designs, Concepcion by designer Ed Concepcion, Dear Mina by Mina Caragay of San Francisco, and Van Le’s love + keep.
