Fall Hair Trends 2012

This Fall’s hair trends straight of the runways of Fendi to Derek Lam mark the return of iconic styles, modern femininity and a bohemian french twist. Hair stylist Justin Surh of Micheljohn in Beverly Hills shares tips with Audrey’s fashionista’s on how to get “the look” of the season.

Big Waves – This gorgeous 70’s inspired look is feminine, luxurious, soft and flattering.
How/to: For long-lasting waves let the hair set in 7 large hair rollers (2 each side, 2 in the back and 1 on top.) Make sure you roll the hair under the rollers. You can use the rollers on wet or dry hair. Wet hair will give you a stronger curl. On dry hair keep the heat on for 3-5 minutes. You can do your makeup, while letting the curls set. Take out rollers, flip the hair upside down and run your fingers through. Then spray with Sebastian Shaper Hair Spray (make sure it’s an aerisol) and scrunch hair in hands for extra body.

Top Knots – Start by working a spray mouse into hair to give it texture. If your hair is very fine, don’t be afraid to add more mouse. Blow dry for a few minutes while scrunching the hair with your hands. Tilt your head upside down and wrap an elastic around your hair and pull hair through into a messy bun/knot. Pin the bottom of hair with a bobby pin at the back on the knot. This style works better with more texture, so does not need to be polished.

Twisted Braids – Take two pieces of your hair and keep twisting together into rope-like braids and gather into two pigtails. You can also wear the twisted braids as alice bands and leave the rest of your hair down.

60’s Revival – The Bouffant

To get this look apply volumizing mousse and blow dry hair. For more texture use a curling rod. Side part the hair and leave a section of the front of the hair loose. Tease the hair at the roots before pulling it back info a messy twist. Use bobby pins to secure.

If your hair is on the shorter side, one of my favorite looks is the Mod Bob. Classic and timeless.

The trick is volume! Take a small section at the crown of your head and backcomb it in a downward motion. Add a good amount of hair spray on to the bouffant section. Then part your hair on the side or middle depending on your face shape. For a middle part you can secure the sides with bobby pins, just behind the ear. A side part, try pinning the hair on one side at eye level. Finish off the look with plenty of hair spray.
