Things have been bubbly and eventful for African-Korean American R&B singer Amerie: she changed her name, is working on an upcoming album, and is now engaged!
The Name Game: Amerie — or I should say “Ameriie” — has added an extra “I” to her name. Ameriie claims the spelling change is a reflection of positive energy. And here’s a fun fact, she signs her name in both English and Korean when signing autographs!
The Album: Her new album set to be called Cymatika Vol. 1 is currently in the works as a follow up to her previous In Love & War. In a recent interview with Rap-Up, Ameriie has said that her new album will be similar to her album Because I Love It. Moreover she is hoping to take a step into “international” music. Perhaps we’ll see a fusion of Korean pop and her R&B style on her forthcoming tracks.

Will she or won't she ... wear a hanbok for her upcoming nuptials? Amerie with her Korean mother in Seoul.
I do! Or at least … I will: Reported a couple months ago, Ameriie is also engaged. The singer is due to marry her manager fiancé Lenny Nicholson, after accepting his proposal during a romantic holiday in Paris. Confirming the news, Ameriie’s rep wrote via Twitter: “Can u correct the news Amerie just got engaged. She is not getting married (yet), she just got engaged, that’s it.”
Yea. That’s it.
Skinny jeans are a must in any fashionista’s wardrobe. Flying Monkey’s dark denim stretch skinny jeans are no exception. Why pay a fortune on other brands when these jeans are just as good if not better? These jeans are so stretchy, they’ll hug your curves and look amazing. Go ahead and pair them with that silky top of yours for a night at the club or with a men’s wear style button-up for a business casual look. These skinny jeans will definitely not disappoint.
September is the second busiest month for weddings, second only to June. So for those of you planning a gorgeous fall wedding, you’re in luck. Korean American designer Yoo Lee of Saja is having a sale on her stunning bridal gowns we blogged about earlier this year, starting tomorrow!
She’s got plenty of bridesmaid dresses as well, so if you’re in the New York area, head over!
I don’t care how old you are, Hello Kitty rules. It was fashionable when you were 5; it’s fashionable now. You can wear it as jewelry, on your bag, or as a shirt.
Like this “SO Cute” top and tank from Mighty Fine.
It comes as a 2-in-1 set, so you can either wear the pieces separately, together, or with something else. The racerback tank has black and colored hearts splattering the front and back with Hello Kitty’s cute face snuggled between them. You can pull over it a white crop top tee with Kitty chillin’ on your chest.
Cute, casual, fun.
OMG it’s Friday. You know what that means.
I get to settle down at home with a nice book and chillax at home. Or I could go out and watch a comedy show. Shall I go dancing instead? Find a mysterious lover? The possibilities!
To help you start your weekend right, we’ve got a few goodies for y’all.
Two handmade multi-print silk scarves with fringe by Rachel Park Designs!!
This woman (and her designs) is a godsend for women. Why?
Because, women of the world, you no longer have to be bored or frustrated with your boyfriend, brother, father, boss, or ex-lover’s drab neckwear. Park was inspired by the lack of variation and excitement seen in men’s accessories and sought out a way to create something that would be tasteful, vibrant, and appealing to men.
But no worries homegirls, Rachel has you covered. For women, Rachel creates lovely silk scarves that are dynamic in color and tasteful in design. Rachel Park Designs knows how to accommodate every woman’s fashion accessory needs.
Each piece is made with precision, an eye for detail and the highest quality materials, and a bit of her Asian and New York flair is incorporated in every one of them.
And with this week’s TGIFree Friday giveaway, two of you will win one of these silk scarves, each originally marked at $60, for free.
You have until July 16, 11:59 p.m. to comment. And don’t forget to include your U.S. mailing addy!

Just last weekend, I was with my girlfriend in search of a crop top. Although the day was fun, our search for a cute crop top worthy of the few bills we had managed to scrape together was a fail. We walked up and down Hollywood Boulevard like a pair of out-of-place, daytime hookers, but no luck.
Now, had I known about this crop top, I wouldn’t have spent so much time in Hollywood looking for it. This watercolor lace crop top by IZESX has a zipper back and is the perfect mesh (pun intended) of color and see-through. The “watercolor” effect on the lace makes it pop, but it doesn’t go overboard and turns it into a mess of colors. Paired with a pair of black leggings and stunning heels, you’ll be sure to turn some heads.
We’ve always been a fan of designer Trina Turk. Known for her sophisticated sportswear and signature prints worthy of any Mad Men set, the designer, who learned how to sew from her Japanese mother, is debuting her spring 2011 swimwear collection as the “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami Beach on Thursday, July 15.
If you know anything about the Trina Turk aesthetic, you know that she’s always been inspired by the cocktail party and poolside lifestyle of the desert. For her swimwear collection, the designer looked to the Mexican resort city of Acapulco in the 1960s and 1970s, an era known for glamorous getaways by Hollywood’s rich and famous and the international jet set. Expect her signature patterns, unique prints and cool color mixes, embellished with unique gold hardware inspired by Trina’s love of vintage jewelry and architecture.
The California native started her eponymous line in 1995 and from there the company’s grown to stand-alone boutiques in Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Burlingame, New York and Bal Harbour. In addition to women’s and men’s ready to wear, and now swimwear, Trina Turk offers a hosiery “guest designer” line with Hue, a printed fabric collection for the home with the venerable home furnishings manufacturer Schumacher, and Trina Turk home products, including rugs, pillows and tabletop textiles.
As a “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer, Trina Turk joins the prestigious ranks of past designers including Asian American Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, Narciso Rodriguez, Red Carter and CHADO Ralph Rucci.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim takes place in Miami Beach, Fla., at The Raleigh from July 15-19. Among the many designers who will be presenting their Spring 2011 collections include Crystal Jin, designed by Asian American Crystal Eley, whom we featured in our Summer issue; Mara Hoffman Swim; and True Religion Swimwear.

My mama always told me cotton products were the best because they were lightweight and breathable. But when I think of cotton clothing, I think of underwear. Or undershirts. Or marshmallows.
The “Dylan” off-shoulder dress in white from VAVA by Joy Han makes me reconsider my preconceived notions of cotton. Made from 100 percent cotton, this romantic dress is designed with careful attention to detail. The ruffled collar and sleeves showcase the quality of the dress, and it has enough detailing to make it stylish without going over the top, giving it a timeless look. The belted waist is an homage to the empire waistline from back in the day, but it’s proportioned just right to give it a modern feel.
I guess my mom knew what she was talking about when she said cotton products were the best.

It’s one made with mad love and care (and eco-friendly, super soft bamboo fibers too!).

Inspired by the notion, “It’s not just sleepwear, it’s fashion,” the sisters work together to design and create modern constructions of comfortable and stylish skivvies, rompers, and other intimate apparel that can be worn on the outside.
Anything from nature to exotic environments inspire them to create, and their tight bond and passion for sleep fashion can be seen woven into the softness of the onesie. Sheer, light, and simple in design, this onesie will be perfect for you as you curl up with a movie to have some sister-sister bonding time or as a sisterly gift.
