This has gone on too long.
I have felt like a degenerate teenager with my trendy/rebellious golden-streaked locks that don’t match any of my pretty Spring/Summer wardrobe for far too long.
Just as I was about to purchase a home hair-dye kit, my editor asks me, “Do you want to get your ombre locks fixed by this famous Beverly Hills colorist?”
Thank you, Lord for answering my prayers.
I set an appointment to the luxe Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills, frequented by Reese Witherspoon, Laguna Beach starlets, and Hollywood housewives.
Entering the salon, I was surprised by how hip the atmosphere is. I usually associate Beverly Hills salons with stuffy, boring, pretentiousness but this was neither as the vibe was bustling and colorful and the folks were friendly and inviting.
Troves of star power trekked out to the Snow Flower and the Secret Fan screening at the Tribeca Grand Hotel last week. And the fashion, though tamer than, say, the Cannes Film Fest or NY fashion week, was still something to be noted.
Do you ever wake up one day and feel like there’s something you’re just so thankful for, you wanna tell the world about it?
Sometimes it could be big stuff. (My baby sister is so awesome! My car didn’t die on me today!) Sometimes it’s a little more minuscule.
Today’s one of those days.
I’ve always been a makeup hoarder. I have to pack my two giant makeup pouches everywhere I go just in case my makeup melted off my face one day and I’ll have to reapply.
But Too Faced‘s Glamour to Go palette, available at Sephora, completely changed my world.
It’s cliche but it’s true.
You never know what you have until it’s gone.
My hair was getting long.
It was starting to just become this wisp of a thing that planted flat against my head and clung lifelessly by its roots. Sure, sometimes it was pretty but it was bOring!
Like all restless souls, I needed a change. I wanted to set aside my prudish reputation and BE COOL for once.
When looking for a shower gel, here is my single most important requirement: it has to smell good.
While I put emphasis on scent above all else, my mom looks for ones with the best value. Others prefer ones that guarantee they kill 99.99 percent of germs or ones that won’t irritate their skin. Surely we put some consideration when we purchase our daily essential body cleanser, but have you ever thought about what happens to it when it goes down the drain? After all, there are chemicals inside that are bound to have a negative impact on the aquatic environment. But no worries — there are ways to reduce your chemical waste. The Body Shop introduces the first ever 100 percent biodegradable shower gel range from their Earth Lovers Collection. Now, as quoted by The Body Shop, you can “lather up with a clean conscience”!
This past weekend, Las Vegas was more than just a summer hot spot for bottle service and laying poolside in a cabana. The Miss USA pageant was held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino on Sunday night.

Credit: James Otoa/EverettAs an assistant editor for a woman lifestyle magazine, I’m exposed to images, faces, bodies and shapes all day, everyday. I surf blogs, I flip through magazines and I interview some of the most “beautiful” people on the planet.
As my life has gotten more infused with the media’s standards of beauty, I have to admit, I became a little disturbed by the narrow scope of what is deemed beautiful in our society. Long limbs, blonde mane, enormous eyes, lush lips, big boobs, etc. As an Asian American woman, we have a slightly different set of requirements to be beautiful (straight black hair, big eyes, clear, pale skin, waify body shape, etc.), but it’s still there.
But then, I realized I was actually in a position to do something about it! Audrey Magazine decided to put out a casting call seeking REAL women to participate in a photo shoot for our Summer issue. We wanted to feature girls who had great stories to share about their quirks, their bodies, their faces.
In our Summer 2011 issue, we introduced you to celebrity dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu’s new book Feed Your Face: Younger, Smother Skin and a Beautiful Body in 28 Delicious Days. Here, some more beautifying tips from the skin guru.
I’m a super lazy hair person. I mean, I can spend hours on skin care and makeup, but hair? I wanna just wash and go. It helps that my hair is generally healthy and frizz-free, and that a ponytail or high bun is my look du jour.
But I will say, my perspective has changed a bit after I got a blow-out at Nelson Chan’s salon a couple months back. My hair looked like it belonged in a Pantene commercial and I’m seriously reconsidering the whole wash and go look.
