What’s the Verdict on Alexander Wang’s Balenciaga Debut?
Post by Kanara • March 01, 2013 • Post a comment

Fashion’s wonder boy at the end of his debut at Balenciaga (courtesy of NY Times).

When it was announced in late November that Alexander Wang would take over as the next Creative Director for brand Balenciaga (after Nicolas Ghesquière ended his 15-year run), it left the fashion industry in uproar. Would he be able to follow in the footsteps of Ghesquière and carry on the brand’s legacy? While Wang has already made quite a name for himself at a young age as a fashion designer, many believed that he didn’t carry enough experience.

The cover spread features actresses Kim Hee-sunHan Hyo-jooLee Yeon-hee Han Chae-youngKim Hyo-jinLee Yo-won, Kim Yun-jin, and Jeon Ji-hyun who serves as the issue’s cover model. The shoot stops nothing short of making all the girls look fabulous – even if they’re surrounded by large legos (in the case with Han Hyo-joo), holding a plastic baby (Lee Yeon-hee), or fawning over a cheetah in a forest (Kim Hee-sun).

Winter 2012-13 Cover Story | Maggie Q
Post by Ada • February 20, 2013 • Post a comment

Now in her third season playing the title role in The CW hit series, Nikita, Maggie Q knows what she wants — from the best angle to showcase a gown to how an action scene should be done in Hollywood.

At the start of our interview, Maggie Q jokes that she might be in a concussed state.

“I was just fighting this guy, and I smashed my head into the camera,” she says, still stunned. “I paused for a second, I had tears coming out of my eyes, and then I was like, ‘OK, I’m ready. Let’s go.’”

For most people, this sounds like a horrific assault, but it’s just another day at work for the 33-year-old actress and action star. In the past two seasons of her CW television show Nikita, Maggie has fallen down a ladder, broken fingers, and even burned her breasts. The latter happened while filming a scene where she was running down a hill, shooting a gun. She was sprinting so quickly that the hot, empty shells fell straight into her bra.

New York Fashion Week: Son Jung Wan’s Fall/Winter 2013 ‘Dynamic Romance’
Post by Kristina • February 13, 2013 • Post a comment

Son Jung Wan once again gave an art history lesson at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this past Saturday (February 9). Last season, she was inspired by Spanish artist Juan Miro. For her Fall/Winter 2013 collection, the Korean designer was influenced by two of Russia’s greats: painter Kandinsky for his flair in bringing together music and art and the Catherine Palace for its extravagant elegance.

Wan worked with her two contrasting inspirations as she masterfully balanced fine details and neutral hues (gray, ivory, off-white and beige) with lavish textures (wool, fur, tweed, cash-pelt and suede) and jewel tones (ox blood, burgundy, gold, deep violet and teal). Case in point: her last two looks with the ultra-glamorous fox mocha-colored fur coat accentuated with sequins and the hot gold sequined jumper that fabulously finished the show.

Wan has become known for her romantic aesthetics, always offering alluring gowns amongst the heavy coats, floor-gazing pants and structured cocktail dresses. Her latest collection was no different as she included show-stopping mesh dresses in dark violet and mocha – surely wowing her Hollywood fans like Brooke Shields and Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford.

What We’re Loving Now: The Hayworth Collection from Warby Parker
Post by Kanara • February 12, 2013 • Post a comment

Our fave: the Edgeworth in English Oak (tinted).

I’m a bit of an old soul: I grew up watching films from the 40s and 50s and marveled over the lady-like silhouettes of the time: full length skirts, polka dot patterns, and tight, cinched waists. When Warby Parker announced their Hayworth Collection (paying homage to the late film star, as well as the cinema of the time), each of the six new frames—three optical, three sunglasses—features vintage touches rendered in their signature custom acetate and premium Japanese titanium. The Hayworth Collection also marks the introduction of two fresh colors: Sugar Maple (richer, darker) and English Oak (lighter, icier), both inspired by woodgrain.

Find the collection online at warbyparker.com/Hayworth-Collection
