The Hong Kong de Chanel Collection is that perfect gift for the about-town gal – especially the one who dreams of those sultry nights out in Hong Kong. What I love about the colors in this collection are the metallic hues that are inspired by the city lights of HK. You can’t go wrong with Chanel, right?

Ming Xi for Jitrois Fall 2013
Out of all the fashion weeks around the world – all eyes definitely fall on Paris Fashion Week, where hot trends are picked off right off the runway. While you may not picture yourself wearing any one of these looks out on the street anytime soon, it’s always good to take note of the concepts and themes of every collection for inspiration while putting together your fall wardrobe. Some of our favorite trends that came out of Paris Fashion Week included: Stella McCartney’s “tractor soles”, menswear slacks, the return of the 1990s (think back to Courtney Love, baby doll dresses, plaid, and wet hair), and purple as a statement color.

Sue Wong for Oz.
One of our favorite designers, Sue Wong, recently unveiled a collaboration with the film Oz: The Great and the Powerful. You won’t see any inspired glam from the likes of the Dorothy or the Tin Man, but rather the women of Emerald City, and the Good and Bad Witches. From the company:
SUE WONG unveils a spellbinding collection of evening dresses inspired by the upcoming Disney fantasy-adventure film, Oz The Great and Powerful,. This limited-edition collection arrives in stores just in time for the launch of the motion picture in spring 2013. Sue Wong’s unique vision for elegant fashion and her mantra of “Beauty Magic Transformation” aligns well with the spirit of the fantasy world in the film to deliver sophisticated dresses for modern women everywhere.
The collection takes its inspiration from a number of themes in the film. The art deco of Emerald City inspires a stunning rose empire waist column dress with intricate deco geometric hand beaded detail, while the stark black and white visuals of Kansas are manifested in dresses detailed in black and white seutache embroidery. The competing duality of the Good Witch and the Bad Witches characters give rise to ethereal gowns of white and champagne juxtaposed with dramatic femme fatale gowns of black, while the playful fantasy Landscapes of Oz and porcelain visuals of China Town come alive in dresses of floral applique and blue and white lace. From the fine fabrics to the exquisite detailing, each piece is a testament to Sue Wong’s masterful blending of high glamour looks with wearability fit for soirees, dates and red-carpet worthy events.

Asian Hair.
If there’s one Asian stereotype we’re all very familiar with, its Asian hair. No one knows when this actually happened, but at one point people began thinking that all Asian women had the same kind of hair- straight, black, and very sleek. This myth has become so well known that theres actually something called “Japanese hair straightening” to try and get these hair qualities. Its not uncommon to flip through a magazine and come across an article showcasing different types of hair and as expected, “Asian hair” get its very own section. Do some of us have sleek, black, and straight hair? Of course. Do all of us have this? Absolutely not. People may be shocked to discover that just like everyone else, Asian’s are not all born with the same kind of hair (What!?) So let’s break the Asian myth with some familiar faces. Continue reading for some products we suggest for ALL kinds of Asian hair.

Last Friday, Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido announced they would stop selling animal-tested cosmetics, going in effect in April. This decision was due to the fact that the European Union is on it’s way to finalizing their decision on banning such products by the end of March. Since Europe is a big market for the company, Shiseido will use other means to prove their products are safe (human volunteers, other forms of tests, previous test data). However, Shiseido says they will still sell animal-tested products if animal testing is the only way to prove the products are safe or some products require animal testing.
