No longer just on the silver screen, there could be some very real romance for Bae Doona and Jim Sturgess.
The Korean actress and the London-born Brit Sturgess worked together on the recent 2012 film, Cloud Atlas. Among their multiple roles, they played the romantically involved Tilda and Adam Ewing. The film was controversial upon release when Sturgess sported “yellowface” in a different segment to portray Korean rebel Hae-Joo Chang residing in dystopian Seoul, opposite Bae’s android character Sonmi-451.
A Hollywood gossip site recently published several photos of the two actors strolling down the streets of Venice Beach, Calif., arm-in-arm, the Korea Herald reports.
While speculation abounds, there has been no confirmation that the two stars are in a budding romance.
Bae, 33, is a recognizable face in Korean cinema and television and is most notable for her starring role in the South Korean blockbuster, The Host (2006). Sturgess, 31, is best known for his roles in the Beatles-inspired musical, Across the Universe (2007), and the blackjack cheating film 21 (2008).
Sturgess donning Yellowface in Cloud Atlas was not the first time he has drawn the ire of Asian Americans. He played the lead role in 21, which was based on the book Bringing Down the House. Although the real-life MIT students perpetrating the scam were primarily Asian American, the cast of the film was predominantly white.
