ARTrageous Time at Glamorama
Post by Melody • October 05, 2011 • Post a comment

“High fashion. Fierce performances. One unforgettable night.” That really sums it up. It’s cliché, but I honestly had the time of my life at Glamorama, which was held at the Orpheum Theatre downtown on the night of September 23. I mean, fashion shows by nine established brands, performances by none other than Far East Movement and Cee Lo Green plus various dance routines – what more could I ask for? It’s one of the biggest events I’ve been to so far with the hottest celebrities and it’s all for a good cause! There really is no better way to use entertainment as a way to give back to such an important cause such as AIDS and HIV services, prevention, education and research.

Who Wore What at Audrey’s Night Out 2011
Post by Melody • September 20, 2011 • Post a comment

“Audrey’s Night Out is filled with free booze, fashion plus lots of hot girls and guys. If you could only pick one, what would you choose?” While other people may be there for the alcohol and the hotties, I was there for the fashion. Here’s my fashion picks for the night:

1. Classic Cocktail Dresses
Simplicity speaks louder than you think. I am loving Nikki Soohoo’s cocktail dress here with the heart neckline and black and nude contrast. It hugs her in all the right places and she looks absolutely stunning.

The Master of Kung Fu: Not Po the Panda But Jennifer Yuh Nelson

Whenever I’m asked the question, “What’s your favorite movie genre?” I laugh a little thinking if my answer would be age-appropriate and say, “Animation.” Call me a kid, but who could resist the cute animated characters and humorous story lines? Recent announcement from DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. confirms that I can’t possibly be the only adult who enjoys watching movies that remind me of my childhood times. The summer sequel Kung Fu Panda 2 has grossed over $645 million globally to date. You would’ve never guessed that Jennifer Yuh Nelson, now the highest-grossing female director for a film at the worldwide box office, was once hesitant to take up the position. It’s a really notable achievement for an Asian American woman, especially considering this is Nelson’s directorial debut.

Putting blush on our cheeks helps bring out our femininity, innocence and sweetness – those are the qualities newly-formed band, Blush, is trying to express with their group’s name. On Thursday, the all-girl Asian pop band that is based in Hong Kong made their debut appearance on national television on So You Think You Can Dance’s (SYTYCD) results show. They are known for opening for Justin Bieber in Hong Kong during his world tour as well as making an appearance in Hong Kong’s Rugby Sevens. Performing their single “Undivided” with Snoop Dogg, the girls showed off their skills in dancing and singing to the studio audience and to the cameras for those watching at home. Their music is described to be “edgy and fun with a unique spin.” The title of their first single represents the unity they have as a group even though they are all from different cultural backgrounds.

Eco-Cleaning: Biodegradable Shower Gels
Post by Melody • July 02, 2011 • Post a comment

When looking for a shower gel, here is my single most important requirement: it has to smell good.

While I put emphasis on scent above all else, my mom looks for ones with the best value. Others prefer ones that guarantee they kill 99.99 percent of germs or ones that won’t irritate their skin. Surely we put some consideration when we purchase our daily essential body cleanser, but have you ever thought about what happens to it when it goes down the drain? After all, there are chemicals inside that are bound to have a negative impact on the aquatic environment. But no worries — there are ways to reduce your chemical waste. The Body Shop introduces the first ever 100 percent biodegradable shower gel range from their Earth Lovers Collection. Now, as quoted by The Body Shop, you can “lather up with a clean conscience”!
