It’s all about Gatsby, Gatsby, Gatsby these days and who better to take the fashion lead than Fashion Designer Sue Wong with the launch of her Fall Collection titled none other than, “The Great Gatsby”.  At her recent birthday party/fashion preview, the Hollywood crowd amazed donning flapper girl dresses, beads and crystals galore with men dappered out in their suit and ties.  The red carpet was rolled out for celebrities in attendance such as Kelsey Grammer and his wife, actor Thomas Jane to the pop band Blush.

Wong is a fashion legacy known to create her collections centered around films such as “Eat, Pray, Love” and “Oz: The Great and Powerful” in the past.  For her Gatsby Collection, Wong wanted to “…bring to life the spirit of an era that Fitzgerald flawless depicted in his novel…” which is delicately designed in her flapper dresses that are decorated with rich beading and fringed skirts.  Audrey caught up with Wong as she describes who the Sue Wong woman is, the soulfulness of style and her hard knocks advice on getting into the fashion biz.

LA Fashion Week 2013 | Manna Kadar of Manna Kadar Cosmetics
Post by Lorna • April 08, 2013 • Post a comment

Manna Kadar Cosmetics was the exclusive make-up sponsor of the 2013 LA Fashion week providing make-up for the runway shows last month.  While some might think this was a daunting task (handling every show!), Manna of Manna Kadar Cosmetics takes it all in stride.  This could be because of the long-wearing make-up she designed for the everyday woman.  Says Manna, “The premise for the line is [that] all the items are long-wearing, double duty so once you put the make-up on, it doesn’t move, it doesn’t smudge.”

Manna got her foot in the beauty industry door at an early age as she owned seven cosmetic stores by the time she was twenty-two while attending USC.  Operating cosmetics stores was the best hands-on training for her as she was able to truly test every product constructing her own analysis on what product performed well and what product didn’t.  She would go on to take some time off and venture into the financial world as a banker for seven years.  But her passion for beauty consumed her and she jumped right back in, acquiring a few more salons and spas.  What did she gain overall from this experience?  “I kind of learned both sides of the business…the combination of the two is what led to creating Manna Kadar Cosmetics,” says Manna.

AUDREY caught up with a busy Manna in between one of many shows during Fashion Week and we got the lowdown on her collaborative working process with fashion designers, one of her key products and how to achieve beauty “fabulousness” in a mere seven minutes.

What do you get when you have three best friends from high school celebrating a 21st birthday, a charging buffalo and a vindictive latina sorority?  Just another day for the cast of characters in 21 and Over starring Justin Chon (Twilight), Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Miles Teller (Project X).  Written and directed by the same duo Jon Lucas and Scott Moore who were the masterminds behind The Hangover films, this film is the sophmore version of The Hangover with a splash of Weekend at Bernie’s.

Meet Jeff Chang, who is paid a surprise visit by his best friends from high school Casey and Miller, the day before a critical medical school interview. After a little bit of peer pressure, Jeff Chang succumbs and decides “one drink” won’t kill him but when one drink turns into a hundred drinks and bar hopping, the adventure begins. With a passed out Jeff Chang, Casey and Miller embark on a journey to find the one most wanted question – where does he live?  After infiltrating a latina sorority, dodging a buffalo on the loose at a pep rally and rescuing Jeff Chang from the cops, these events create an even more special bond between the three of them with a touching moment spliced in between all the other misadventures and mayhem.

This film hits theaters on March 1st.
