Kanara
KANARA TY had dreams of being the world's most famous accordion player - but failed miserably at the age of seven in her first recital. Now chasing her dreams of being a journalist, she is a self-proclaimed expert on Asian pop culture, is always on the hunt for the best Thai boat noodles on the West Coast, and rules the dance floor with an iron fist. Besides her current gig at Audrey Magazine, Kanara contributes to Asia Pacific Arts and DramaFever. Kanara is also a graduate of both UCLA and SFSU.

Free People’s latest monthly catalog features Chinese model Fei Fei Sun modeling some of the brand’s latest bohemian looks. While it is spring, I’m digging the bold and rich colors that’s a huge contrast from the usual light and pastel colors often seen in ads and stores. Let us know what are some of your favorite looks!

Shiseido To End Sales of Animal Tested Products
Post by Kanara • March 03, 2013 • Post a comment

Last Friday, Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido announced they would stop selling animal-tested cosmetics, going in effect in April. This decision was due to the fact that the European Union is on it’s way to finalizing their decision on banning such products by the end of March. Since Europe is a big market for the company, Shiseido will use other means to prove their products are safe (human volunteers, other forms of tests, previous test data). However, Shiseido says they will still sell animal-tested products if animal testing is the only way to prove the products are safe or some products require animal testing.

The Daily Shag | We Got Married’s Julien Kang

Happy Friday! We hope you’re winding down from the week and making good plans for the weekend. In fact, one of our own plans this weekend is to catch the last episode of the Julien Kang/Yoon Se Ah couple on the South Korean reality show We Got Married. I’m a longtime follower of the show and I’m sad to say that they’re ending their run.

For those of you who don’t know – Julien Kang is Korean Canadian actor (his dad is Korean and his mom is French Canadian) based in Seoul. He’s also starred in popular Korean dramas such as To the Beautiful You and High Kick 3, in addition to We Got Married.

But to congratulate him on a successful stint on the reality show – and to well, his beautiful abs – here’s a some of our favorite pics of Julien. He’s definitely a SHAG (Smoking Hot Asian Guy).

Enjoy!

What’s the Verdict on Alexander Wang’s Balenciaga Debut?

Fashion’s wonder boy at the end of his debut at Balenciaga (courtesy of NY Times).

When it was announced in late November that Alexander Wang would take over as the next Creative Director for brand Balenciaga (after Nicolas Ghesquière ended his 15-year run), it left the fashion industry in uproar. Would he be able to follow in the footsteps of Ghesquière and carry on the brand’s legacy? While Wang has already made quite a name for himself at a young age as a fashion designer, many believed that he didn’t carry enough experience.

L.A. Weekly’s 99 Essential Restaurants 2013: Which Asian Restaurants Made the List?
Post by Kanara • February 28, 2013 • Post a comment

What I love about L.A. Weekly’s 99 Essential Restaurants list is that it’s a good mix of places that has something for everyone – especially in a city with some of the world’s most eccentric characters. I’ll admit there were some surprises, but I was pleasantly pleased with the numerous Asian entries on the list.

This year’s list is a little different – not just because of the new entries on the list – but because this is the first time other contributors have also worked on this list besides famous food writer Jonathan Gold (Tien Nguyen and Christine Chiao were enlisted). With a place as big and diverse as L.A., it’s important to have a mix of different voices  to offer their opinions (and you know, share with us their hidden gems).

Did some of your favorites make the list? Click on to see!
