Why Jeremy Lin Would Make A Great Boyfriend
Post by Janice • February 16, 2012 • Post a comment

In the span of less than two weeks, Jeremy Lin has gone from being an NBA benchwarmer to Asian America’s heartthrob. When he’s not making record-breaking points, career-high assists, or leading his team to victory at the last 0.5 seconds, he’s garnering praise from Spike Lee, Steve Nash, President Obama, pretty much every sportswriter in the universe, and all my friends on Facebook and Twitter. It’s pretty clear we’ve all caught #Linsanity. Rumor has it that Kim Kardashian is even trying to get lin on the action.

And who can blame Kim? Here, we share with you several very, very valid reasons why Jeremy Lin would make a great boyfriend (sprinkled in with hilarious memes from the “Hey Girl, It’s Jeremy Lin” tumblr. Swoonworthy):

1) He’s tall

Fresh Traveler takes on Thailand
Post by Janice • January 06, 2012 • Post a comment

Meet Patricia Serrano of Fresh Traveler.

She is doing what most of us dream of: traveling the world on someone else’s expense. Patricia’s easy breezy on-air presence mixed with some beautiful cinematography of the places she’s been to makes her videos addictive to watch.

This Thai-American travel vlogger recently made a trek to Thailand along with her videographer Brandon Li and is letting us in on her envious winter vacation. Check out the preview video below:

Check out Patricia getting her feet bitten off — err — getting cleaned below:

We asked the Fresh Traveler some questions on how she got to do what she does and some traveling advice. Check it:

How did you start your travel blog?
Fresh Traveler: After starting a spontaneous affair with a videographer I hardly knew, we whisked away on an adventure to Baja California and combined our shared passion for traveling and filmmaking. Now, I can’t get rid of him.

Why did you name it FreshTraveler?
FT:
TravelAddict.com was taken and I liked the sound of a URL that had four syllables. I also wanted a name that captured what I wanted to do – a fresh and unabashed approach to travel.

Coolest place you’ve been to?
FT:
Definitely Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. I saw nature inspired architecture that I swear was out of the forests of Walt Disney’s Snow White. I love the way that the Modernisme vibe of the whole city transports me to a fantastical land.

Most memorable adventure?
FT:
When I was on a speedboat to Koh Phi Phi in Thailand, I was so distracted by water caves that I dropped one of my videographer Brandon’s cameras in the middle of the Andaman Sea. I felt so guilty because it’s not like I could dive into the depths of the ocean to retrieve it. Lesson learnt: always wear a wrist strap when holding a camera on a speedboat. That’s definitely something that Brandon will never let me forget.

Piece of advice for travelers?
FT:
Sin gracefully.

If you’ve enjoyed Fresh Traveler’s Thailand trip so far, keep checking in, we’ll be posting more vids from them in the next coming weeks!

‘Circumstance’ Producer Karin Chien Takes On the PGA
Post by Janice • December 21, 2011 • Post a comment

It’s tough getting any movie made, much less one about an Iranian forbidden lesbian romance coming of age drama.

So kudos to producers Karin Chien, Melissa M. Lee and Maryam Keshavarz (who also wrote and directed the film) for releasing Circumstance earlier this year and to rave reviews.

The movie centers around a pair of free-spirited Tehran teens Atafeh (Nikohl Boosheri) and Shireen (Sarah Kazemy) struggling with their burgeoning sexuality under the rigid rules of an oppressive theocracy. The film is set in Iran, filmed in Beirut, edited in Chile, finished in France, and financed primarily by U.S. sources. Circumstance premiered at the 2011 Sundance Awards where it picked up the Audience Award for drama.

However, the controversy surrounding the film has also carried off-screen as Chien recently penned an open letter condemning the Producers Guild Award for labeling Circumstance a foreign film because the film is not in English.

Read Karin’s full letter under the cut. Continue Reading »

Video of the Day: 25 Ways To Wear A Scarf
Post by Janice • December 19, 2011 • Post a comment

As we’re hitting the colder time of the year, a scarf is my favorite accessory to wear. They’re easy to carry and add a pop to any old outfit.

My usual scarf style is the “modern loop” which is basically a wrap around the neck. But I’ve been hoping to change it up a bit and get a little creative with my winter wear.

So imagine my delight when I found this mesmerizing video on 25 different ways you can wear a scarf! This tutorial is taught by youtuber wendyslookbook and is so fun and easy to watch and learn!

Special props to the editor and cameraman for taking this beyond just another homemade Youtube video.

Check out the video for yourself!

Audrey Asks: Where’s Your Favorite Place In The World?
Post by Janice • December 17, 2011 • Post a comment

At CAPE’s (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) 20th Anniversary Gala this year, we knew all the guests were jealous of the cast of Hawaii 5-0 (who were being awarded for the evening) for being able to work in, um, paradise.

So naturally, we asked them: “Where’s your favorite place in the world to work/ Where do you want to be able to work?” Check it:

The Magic To ‘Spellbound’
Post by Janice • December 16, 2011 • Post a comment

You really can’t drag me to a scary movie.

But on the other hand, I can’t stop my eyeballs from watching one romantic comedy after the other.

So when I heard that the Korean flick, Spellbound contained both genres, I was intrigued. After all, a scary movie with romance in it can’t be that scary, can it? After all, how can mixing ghouls and spirits, blood and blood-pounding music with flowers and cute fashion, funny one-liners and sweet kisses leave me with nightmares? It can’t, right?

Spellbound was able to give me both.  Continue Reading »

Audrey Asks: Who Kicks Ass In Your Life?
Post by Janice • December 15, 2011 • Post a comment

There were a whole lot of ass-kickers at CAPE’s (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) 20th Anniversary Gala. Maggie Q, the cast of Hawaii 5-0, Supah Ninjas, even a power ranger or two!

So naturally, we asked, “Who do you think is the most kick-ass person?”
