“It was kind of a fish-out- of-water experience for myself, being your ‘American-Born, Confused Desi,’ going to India and getting submerged in the culture.” — Anisha Nagarajan

STORY: Katrina Guevara with reporting by Anna M. Park
As Madhuri, the wallflower call center worker on NBC’s hit series Outsourced, Anisha Nagarajan does shy-but-optimistic well. Sure, some question the portrayals of South Asians on the show, which follows an American relocated to India to manage a call center for an Americana novelties company, but Nagarajan sees it a different way.
By now, it’s a no-brainer that sun protection must accompany your trips outdoors.
People are always telling you, “Be sure to wear your sunblock!” or, “You don’t want to get sun damage!”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 70 percent of adults do not apply sunscreen regularly and more than one-third of the U.S. population reported experiencing sunburn in the previous year. These are alarming statistics, especially since melanoma and sun-induced skin cancers are increasing each year.
We asked Dr. Ranella Hirsh some pressing questions for this summer’s hottest accessory.

When I was in college, I distinctly remember one ill-advised trip to an outdoors activities fair which led to the worst sunburn I’d ever had in my entire life. My nose looked like it was falling off and my shoulders cried out in pain for the remotest of touch.
“Why don’t you put some aloe on that?” My friends winced at me.

Before all the hipsters started making things like organic stuff well, hip, there was the original, pioneering Burt’s Bees. Call me a sucker for the original but no matter what fun, flavorful chapsticks I get to try at the Audrey Magazine beauty closet, I still stick to my good ol’ Burt’s Bees. My good girlfriend only stocks up on their shampoo. You can call us “crazee for Burt’s Bees!”

We here at Audrey are fans of Jellypop Shoes. Sweet, sassy, fun, the floral-filled footwear line always seems to put comfort first without sacrificing cuteness.
This spring is no exception. The Jellypop Spring 2011 Collection was inspired by the beautiful organic colors and tones of spring and nature. As seen on the Jellypop website, their collection is split into three themes: Tribal Expedition, Garden Tea Party, and Cali Summer Days.
Tribal Expedition plays with details from nature making brown wood textures look good on your feet. Garden Tea Party is whimsical and cheery, filled with florals, crochet and soft linens. Cali Summer Days are a laid-back line of sandals and wedges perfect for the beach.
But what’s better than affordable? Free, of course!
In our Spring 2011, we told you that Dengue Fever‘s new album, Cannibal Courtship, was coming out April 19. Now the Cambodian American Chhom Nimol-led psych-rock band celebrates the release and kicks off their U.S. tour with an all-ages record release party next week at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Don’t miss out on the chance to hear live the Cambodian rock, Afro grooves, surf, and garage psych music of this uber-hip, eclectic band. (They’ll be debuting the Mastadong, a one-of-a-kind half Fender Jazzmaster guitar, half Cambodian Chapei Dong Veng, which was created exclusively for Dengue Fever guitarist Zac Holtzman, and is featured on the album cover, above, with Nimol.)
