Yay for community event successes! The Asian Professional Exchange (APEX) held their second charity mixer and fashion show to fundraise for the 17th Annual APEX Youth Olympics – a sporting event that brings together at-risk youth from inner cities to promote leadership through team-building exercises.
Over 500 professionals in the greater Los Angeles area came together to witness the work of trail blazing Asian American designers and entrepreneurs, Stella & Jamie, Line and Dot, Ai for Ai and Carol Chen Couture.
“The set looked phenomenal, the designers were fabulous, and the turnout well exceeded our expectations,” said George Yin, APEX Director of LA Membership.
The night featured runway models from Asian beauty pageant courts including Miss LA Chinatown, Miss Nisei Week, Miss Korea SoCal, Miss Taiwan California, Miss South Asia, Miss Vietnam SoCal, Miss Taiwanese USA, Miss Teen Taiwan, Miss Teen Taiwan International. “This event highlighted up and coming Asian Pacific Islander American fashion designers and showcased models representing the various community pageants in the region,” said Tuan Do, APEX President. The event was hosted by Lee and actress, singer and dancer, Jelynn Rodriguez.
Let’s check out some of the fashion highlights. I do have to admit, I walked this runway so I may be biased but nonetheless, I tried to keep from posting as many pictures of myself as much as possible! (You’re welcome.)
This year’s Youth Olympics will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Los Angeles College Stadium in Monterey Park. For more information, please visit www.apex.org/yo. Photos courtesy of Gavin Holt for APEX.
