I’m a big fan of Alexa Chung, the 26-year-old Chinese-British It-girl who hosted “It’s On with Alexa Chung” on MTV. (Too bad it got cancelled.) There’s just something about her that is so off-hand cool. I love her ever-undone hair and barely-there makeup look, regardless of whether she’s in a tiny cocktail dress or a neo-preppy getup.
Now Madewell, J. Crew’s heritage denim label, has just announced that Alexa will be designing an exclusive collection for its fall 2010 collection.
According to Madewell, Alexa “will translate her widely admired aesthetic and irreverently sexy tomboy look to this limited-edition Alexa Chung for Madewell collection, which will include covetable jeans and a tightly-edited group of key pieces to wear with them.”
According to Madewell design director Kin Ying Lee, “Alexa’s style is inspiring and inventive, yet unbelievably approachable and down-to-earth. The way she puts everything together is so spot-on — and so perfectly Madewell.
Alexa said she was excited about her first collaboration. “This partnership came together organically and is a great fit as the brand is so classic and really encompasses my style,” she said. Apparently, Alexa was a regular at Madewell’s Soho store, while, in turn, the Madewell design team was always inspired by Alexa’s innate style.
Keep up with Alexa as she tweets developments with the collection at twitter.com/madewell1937. The collection will be sold through madewell1937.com (its ecommerce site will be launching this spring) and in Madewell stores nationwide.
