Here They Are …

The Miss Los Angeles Chinatown contestants!

The 2010 Miss Los Angeles Chinatown contestants.

This past Saturday, 16 young women strutted, posed and expressed their views on everything from the environment to the Tiger Woods scandal at the 2010 Miss Los Angeles Chinatown Pageant, held at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

I attended the event to support my little sis, Carissa Woo, aka Contestant #3!

So proud of Carissa (and my awesome homemade sign!)

The pageant, which dates back to 1963, featured food, entertainment (YouTube sensation Olivia Thai and folk-rock duo Oak & Gorski performed) and of course, the beautiful, accomplished girls who hailed from all over Southern California. Oh, and lots of hairspray and sparkle.

In the end, the judges selected the queen and her court, who will serve as ambassadors of Chinese American culture in Los Angeles and beyond. Along with a scholarship and other prizes, they’ll receive a trip to China during the Shanghai Expo.

The winners, from left: Second Princess and Miss Photogenic Dow-Ning Kou, Third Princess Nebula Gu, First Princess Janice Jann (an Audrey contributor!), Queen Jani Wang, Fourth Princess Carrie Gan, and Miss Friendship Chantel Lee.

Says First Princess (and Audrey contributor!) Janice Jann: “It’s going to be awesome representing Chinese Americans and sharing our blend of Chinese and American culture with the rest of Southern California … haha, such a ‘pageant answer,’ huh?”

Congratulations to everyone!
